In 2019, a 21 year old web developer from Sydney's Northern Beaches was arrested for his part in running several account generating services which earned him over $1 million. Surprised to hear that such an operation had been carried out in his home town, Craig began researching account generating services including WickenGen, HyperGen, and Autoflix. Through forensic analysis and open source intelligence gathering techniques, his investigation led to underground hacking forums where he uncovered the beginnings of the these marketplaces and may have discovered the critical error that resulted in the eventual identification and arrest of the mastermind behind them.
In this talk, we will explore and ask some thought-provoking questions about the trade craft, ethics, and legal problems behind account generating services.
# Speaker: Craig Bourne
Craig is a founder and security consultant at Endure Secure, a Sydney based information security consultancy focused on securing small businesses. He has 15 years of industry experience in IT and information security, specialising in incident response, threat intelligence, penetration testing, risk management, and security operations. Craig also teaches security subjects at TAFE NSW.
Outside of security, Craig is a law student, a musician and a former Halo 2 national champion.
