Sheep Town Social Group [STSG]

STSG's aim is to be one of the best and busiest social groups based in Skipton, North Yorkshire. MeetUp is all about being involved! It's all about community!

In July 2020, I decided to start STSG. I'd already been a part of MeetUp for a couple of years and met some great people and made plenty of friends. This was transformative for me and I wanted others to experience this - to create a group who were like minded.

In order to keep a group active and exciting, it can't all fall to a Group Organizer to do this - especially one in full-time employment! This is partly why members are encouraged to Host'n'Post Events. Also, the more people posting, the greater the range and type of Events and Activities there will be.

Events, Event Types and Event Hosting

The Event Types listed on the website page [link below] 'Event Host Guidance' are the only ones we would be mainly interested in hosting for now. If you have some Event ideas, or want to host an Event yourself, and it isn't listed below, please message me directly and let me know so we can work it out:

IMPORTANT: There are some specific notes with regards to hill walking and the like. If you intend going on a walk, either as Host or an Attendee, please read the Terms and Conditions!

Covid 19 and its variants

Covid 19 [C19] looks like being with us for some considerable time! When attending Events, please bear in mind all legal requirements and guidance for social mixing and distancing. Please do carry hand-gel and masks and also consider the feelings of other members - some people have contact with elderly or vulnerable people and really don't want C19!

Some Events, such as Pub Quiz, aren't hosted directly by our Members but by the venues themselves. Most other Events are hosted by our Members. Some Events won't be possible due to C19 until national and local restrictions allow. Sign up to your local council's C19 notification emails to keep updated.

MeetUp Fees
----------------
Membership of MeetUp Inc. costs the Group Organizer around US$300 per year [as of January 2026], payable once every 12 months, so to recover costs, I have set an Annual Membership Fee of £6. Please feel free to attend a couple of times at no cost to check us out and see if you want to join. We don't charge per Event so you won't be asked for money when you turn up for one! One £6 payment will allow you to attend as few or as many events as you wish.

Please note that, unless there are exceptional circumstances [decided solely by the Group Organizer], your Membership Fee is non-refundable. The fee is currently collected in January [deadline Feb. 10th] and is payable only by bank transfer [BACS]. STSG cannot handle any other form of payment. If you cannot pay by BACS, please get someone to do this on your behalf.

If you apply to join on or after November 25th then you will not have to pay until January, so you get 2 free months! If you join and pay before November 25th then your membership only lasts 2 months and the next payment is due by January 25th.

Membership Timeout

Membership of this group requires Active Participation. If you haven't visited the group home page in 2 months and/or haven't participated in Events, you may be removed from the Active Membership List [AML]. If you wish, you may re-join at any time. Active Participation in the group is strongly encouraged, after all, it IS a social group!

Members
------------
Generally, STSG is open to people of all ages 18 and over. Some Events will be 'Family Friendly' with recommended age restrictions and some will be 'Dog Friendly'. An Event Host should clearly mark these details in the Event Description and if they haven't, feel free to contact them through MeetUp to clarify.

Please be courteous and nice to other Members. Abuse won't be tolerated and any Members involved may be removed, banned and reported to MeetUp Inc. If you have any problems with any other Members, or have received unsolicited or unwanted personal messages from anyone, please forward the messages to me and we'll discuss options! There will always situations where some people just can't get on - please don't bring your personal issues into a public discussion space! If I can help people sort out issues, I will.
