Full description:
Join us on the first stage of a 3-part walk along the Steel Cotton Rail Trail from Hope to back towards Sheffield, collecting walkers along the way in true Pied Piper style. Following the beautiful Hope Valley, we will trace the River Derwent on it’s scenic course before stopping for refreshments at the Plough Inn in Hathersage
All the early birds joining us on Part 1 of this walk are automatically invited to stay for Part 2 and 3 which brings us eventually to Dore and Totley Station.
Alternatively, having spent the morning in the Peaks, you may choose to catch the train back from Hathersage where this first part ends.

Pied Piper-related props and fancy dress encouraged! Please make sure to bring waterproofs and wear sensible shoes. It can get very muddy in the valley and the weather is particularly changeable at this time of year!

If you are joining us for Part 3 please bring a working headtorch as there is a chance we may be walking shortly after sunset!
See https://peakdistrictbytrain.org/the-steel-cotton-rail-trail/ for more route information on the route.

Public transport or car sharing options:
We strongly recommend travelling by train for this linear walk. The best train from Sheffield is the 09:14 to Manchester Picadilly which also calls at Dore and Totley at 09:21. If you need to drive to the station Dore and Totley is a good place to park as this is where Part 3 of the Pied Piper walk finally finishes.

Be prepared:
Please remember to dress appropriately for the time of year, with enough layers, sun protection if required, a waterproof, as well as food and water. Further information on what to bring can be found on our website here: https://www.sheffieldwalkinggroup.org.uk/be-prepared

Sign-up:
Sign-up for this walk opens 5 days before the event. If you sign up and can no longer make it, please be respectful of others and remove yourself from the event so that others can take your place. We request you do this ***NO LATER THAN 6pm*** the night before the walk.

Please note:
Sheffield 20’s and 30’s Walking Group is part of the Ramblers, a registered charity. All of our leaders are volunteers. Everyone is welcome to join us on our walks, there is no need to contact us in advance, and as long as you have a place on our Meetup booking system you can just show up. Non-members can come on up to 3 walks before joining the group. After 3 walks, we require you to sign up as a Ramblers member for insurance purposes. More information about the group can be found at https://www.sheffieldwalkinggroup.org.uk/faqs.
