What we’re about

We are a friendly community of outdoor lovers since July 24, offering free outdoor events in the Peak District National park.
Join us to stay active, meet new people, connect with nature, create lasting memories, and enjoy stunning scenery. Everyone is welcome - all ages and abilities. Routes range from easy walks to challenging hikes.
There are no membership or event fees - everything is completely free.

Important information:
Anyone joining our events is responsible for their safety and health (including guests). The group does not have any insurance policy covering injuries. If you RSVP to our events, you must agree to these conditions.

    What better way to start the new year than with a hike in the Peak District!

    We'll start out in Hope, head over to Castleton, then up Cave Dale, over Winnats Pass and on to Mam Tor, before heading over the Great Ridge to Lose Hill and back down into Hope. Depending on the weather, we may get some amazing views!

    Please note that there may be some very muddy sections. If the weather is looking very bad, the event may be cancelled/rescheduled - or a shortened route may be proposed.

    • Meeting Time: 9:55am for a prompt 10am start
    • Note: there are nearby public toilets on Edale Road (though I am not sure whether they will be open on New Year's Day)

    Weather & Clothing
    The weather on the hills can be highly unpredictable - very cold, windy, icy, rainy.

    Please wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes with good grip that can handle muddy and slippery terrain. Avoid flat trainers or jeans. Dress in layers to accommodate changing weather conditions:

    • Moisture-wicking base layers
    • Insulating mid-layers
    • Waterproof outer layers

    This walk takes place in the heart of the Peak District, offering a chance to experience the area's peaceful winter landscape under the light of the full Wolf Moon. Walking partly in darkness, participants will be guided by moonlight and stars while enjoying expansive views over Ladybower Reservoir, which shimmers softly in the moonlight. The route combines the rugged beauty of the Peak District hills with the atmospheric glow of the January full moon, creating a memorable evening experience.

    • The Wolf Moon is the traditional name for the first full moon of January, known for its bright, mystical glowβ€”perfect for an atmospheric winter walk.

    While you’re welcome to walk at your own pace, be aware that the route may take longer than expected if walking slower than average.
