Bronx East Coast Walk

Details
Take a ferry ride to the Bronx’s beautiful East coast and follow the shoreline for some unique neighborhoods and great views. This will be a moderately paced walk of approximately 17 miles.
Catch the Soundview ferry arriving at Ferry Point Park at 9:59 am. The ferry departs Wall Street at 9:05 am, 34th Street at 9:27 am and E 90th Street at 9:38 am. I will meet you at the ferry landing at Ferry Point Park. Be sure to get off at the last stop Ferry Point Park!
From Ferry Point Park we will walk to SUNY Maritime college and visit Fort Schuyler, a fortification built in the 19th century. From here, we continue our walk through various residential areas in Throggs Neck until reaching the neighborhood of Pelham Bay. Once in Pelham Bay, we will walk through Country Club until arriving in NYC’s largest park, Pelham Bay Park. We will walk through the park, visiting various landmarks including the Bronx’s only public beach, Orchard Beach. After the beach, we will walk to City Island where we will ultimately end our walk with an optional stop at Tony’s Pier for some food and drinks. From City Island you can take the Bx29 bus back to Pelham Bay station to catch the 6 train.
Various dropout points are available throughout the walk via bus. You may also dropout at Pelham Bay Park where you can catch the 6 train.
Most of the walk will be on paved streets but some portions may include walking through grass, over sandy spots and some gravely areas. Appropriate shoes are strongly recommended. Bring lots of water, snacks and lunch. A hat and sunscreen are also advised. There will be access to bathrooms in Ferry Point Park, Maritime College, Pelham Bay Park, and Orchard Beach.
