Hunter Island/Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park
Details
Join us for an exciting hike in Pelham Bay Park. On this hike, we'll visit Hunter Island, and we'll view Bronxhedge and the Little Blue House In The Water. We'll have lunch on the benches of Orchard Beach and hike our way back to the subway. During this activity, we will hike on some of the historic back trails in Pelham Bay Park. There is no elevation gain, and the round-trip hiking distance from our meeting spot will be approximately 5-6 miles. We will remain in Pelham Bay Park, the largest New York City park spanning almost 3,000 acres, for the entire time. I will also provide some historical background regarding Pelham Bay Park.
Meet at 10 AM in Pelham Bay Park, which is the last stop on the number six subway train. Meet on the bench by the restrooms. We will wait an extra 15 minutes or so for the next train arrival before heading out on our hike. Of course, inclement weather will postpone the hike. If you are driving and need directions to the parking lot, just text me and I will send them to you. Hiking poles are recommended but not required.
Hike Leader: Steve Galla 914-953-2222 (text preferred) or call the day of the hike if you get lost.
Note: For those interested in getting back sooner and saving 1.5 miles, you may hop the City Island city bus #29 at a bus stop on our way back.
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS. SET YOUR CLOCK ONE HOUR EARLIER BEFORE SETTING OUT FOR THE HIKE.
