Co-leader Christine will meet members in Penn Station to ride NJ Transit together. cell: 646-491-0764
WALK DETAILS:
Take a leisurely walk with commentary, and at least two bathroom stops along the way, checking out both old and new sites of interest in historic New Brunswick NJ. The city's history dates back to the 1700's and we'll walk on cobblestone streets viewing historic sites, some with ties to the Revolutionary war. As a special bonus, we will cross the Raritan River to Johnson Park to visit East Jersey Old Town Village featuring structures from the 1700s and 1800s. There will be time to have short lunch/snack break and look inside a couple of buildings before we continue on a path along the banks of the Raritan River, crossing back into New Brunswick where we will visit a few more historic and very new sites including HELIX NJ, a huge new development.
We end our walk with an optional happy hour at the Harvest Moon Brewery and Café a block from our starting point at the train station. The Harvest Moon has great food and other drinks besides beer (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages), see website for more details:
https://www.harvestmoonbrewery.com
For those who don't wish to join us for happy hour, NJ transit trains run back to NYC every half hour.
HOW TO GET THERE:
Take the 11:09 AM NJ Transit train from NY Penn Station to New Brunswick which arrives at 12:07PM. There is an earlier train that leaves at 10:33 and arrives at 11:33. Money saving tip: Buy a senior RT ticket to save over 50% as long as you are close to 62. RT Fare: $33.10 Adults/$14.70 Seniors
Meet hike leader, Christine, in the waiting area near the NJ Transit ticket windows (entrance at 31st & 7th Avenue) by 10:45 to travel as a group.
NOTE: NJ Transit posts track number for trains 10 minutes before departure
For those driving, there is no free parking close to the train station so your best bet is to park in the Gateway Garage at 7 Wall Street (in tall building across the train tracks from the train station).
It will cost you $9 to park there for 3-4 hours which should cover the whole time.
BRING: comfortable hiking footwear, water, and snack/lunch.
GUESTS:
If you plan to bring a guest, please forward them this guest waiver and make sure they sign it before coming to the walk: https://bitly.ws/39K5h
MODIFIED RSVP PROCESS: In order to minimize the aggravation caused by casual clickers (those who change their mind at last minute so others can't take their spot), I will initially cap RSVPs at 40 and then only take additional motivated members (from the Waitlist) who text me (908-672-9250) that they really want to attend this event. Just to be clear, NO TEXT, NO GO, I will require everyone including the president (I mean He Who Must Not Be Named, not Pam) who wants to join us from the Waitlist to text me (908-672-9250). Preference will be given to regulars on previous hikes and/or members who indicate they are highly motivated members (will also join us to socialize at the Harvest Moon at end of our walk). Members who are paying attention here will realize that no-one should be left on the Waitlist other than casual clickers (folks who don't pay attention to directions).
Please do not post any comments/questions prior to the hike, instead contact Cameron (leader) at 908-672-9250 or camerons1006@gmail.com if you have any questions.
