Spring Blossoms Social Event

Join Crossroads leaders Lee and Roberta at their house for their spring flower extravaganza and a walk around their trails. The 11 acre property is now officially known as Hidden Creek Nature Preserve and is protected in perpetuity by a conservation easement.

Folks can arrive at or after 6:30. You can tour the yard and pond site where there will be birds and flowers and frogs. Trips around the property and pond are short but the scenery is lovely. You may wish to sit for a while at the pond or creek (with its small waterfall) and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. There is a lot to capture with your eyes or with a camera.

After touring the property feel free to linger and socialize and get to know other Crossroads supporters and leaders. Bring something to drink and a snack to share. Your hosts will have cups, plates, ice and some drinks. We welcome you all to a relaxing evening of flowers and friendship.

Pinckney State Recreation Area Bird and Nature Hike

Lakelands Trail crossing parking lot, Cedar Lake Rd, Pinckney, mi, US
Join us on a scenic, slow-paced, 2-3 mile nature hike through some beautiful wetlands and hilly terrain in Pinckney State Recreation Area. Our hike leader will identify birds and interesting flora along the way which means we will be stopping regularly. Typically, around 40 species of birds are seen. You will find it very helpful to have a pair of binoculars.

This hike is limited to 30 people to make it manageable to point out birds. If you sign up and change your mind, please change your status on Meetup as soon as possible so the next person in line can attend.

We will be assisted on this outing by members of the Huron Valley Audubon and the Southeast Michigan Group of the Sierra Club.

NOTE: Due to the presence of ticks, it is best to wear light-colored clothes to more easily spot them.

Please arrive at 9:45 AM for sign in so we can start promptly at 10:00.

Go 0.1 miles to small trail parking lot on left. Most parking will be on the east side of Cedar Lake Rd., the side with the parking lot.

Detroit Dequindre Cut and Eastern Market Mural urban hike, plus lunch at VegFest

Join us for around 4 miles of urban hiking as we admire many of the murals around Eastern Market and along the paved Dequindre Cut path, followed by lunch at VegFest.

NOTE: VegFest will be happening at Eastern Market from 10am - 4pm. For anyone not interested in the hike part, you could attend VegFest on your own. Look for our Sierra Club Crossroads booth where we will be selling t-shirts and sharing info about our group.

VegFest is a huge annual festival featuring around 100 vendors selling all types of delicious vegan foods and earth-friendly products.
NOTE: dogs are not allowed at VegFest.

Our hike will start at the Dequindre Cut Parking lot at the corner of Wilkins and Orleans. Click the map attached to this meetup to get exact directions.
Please make sure to give yourself plenty of time to arrive early for a 10AM departure. It will be difficult to find us if you are late.

This event will be co-hosted by the Southeast Michigan Sierra Club group (SEMG).
