9AM - 11AMDetails: This is an easy paddle on a quiet, partially shaded creek, along old hardwood and pine forests. It's suitable for a novice paddler that has or has access to a kayak. The time out on the water will only be two hours due to the temperatures. This area of Trout Creek has an abundance of fishing hunting and weekend cottages - some are relics from the past! There is no cost for this outing.
Participants must have a personal Float Device (PFD) and a whistle in order to participate in the paddle. There are no rental boats available and no pets please. Restrooms are available at the launch site and parking is ample.
Please sign the Participation Agreement to participate in our outing at https://act.sierraclub.org/events/details?formcampaignid=701Po00000sSiwpIAC and plan to arrive no later than 8:15am in order to get boats unloaded and into the water by 9am. After the paddle some of the participants often go out to eat lunch at a local cafe.
Directions: Trout Creek's boat ramp is at 6795 Collier Road, just off SR13 South of the Shands Bridge turn off. After turning onto Collier Road, veer left 1/4 mile until you see the Community Center. The launch area is to the left of the Community Center.
Cancellation Policy: Event will be held rain or shine but may be canceled if weather threatens safety as in the case of lightning or high winds in the forecast. Also, if the heat index is forecast to be over 103, the outing will be canceled. Participants are advised to check Meetup for current status before traveling to the event. Events may need to be cancelled at short notice. Sierra Club maintains a safe space agreement between participants, leaders, volunteers, and staff. We want to support everyone in exploring, enjoying and protecting our natural environment. Hateful and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated. We do not want to deny participation in these outdoor programs and will always say no to racism, sexism and ageism.
Looking Forward to Meeting Each of You!

- Hike Fort ClinchFort Clinch State Park, Fernandina Beach, FL
PLEASE read all the way to the bottom AND click the link to sign the waiver!Come hike the beautiful Fort Clinch hiking trail. This is a 5.6 mile loop trail on a mostly leaf covered soil ground. There are lots of hills that are steep and there are tripping hazards. Hiking poles are a good idea. There is lots of shade and an enjoyable off shore breeze that make this hike delightful. We will be walking at a pace of about 20-22 minute miles. The ranger station is not open until 10:30. Paying for parking is on the honor system. When you pull past the station, if you look straight ahead, there is a white metal box you can drop your money in or you can pay on your way out. It is $4.00 for one in a car and $6.00 for 2-8 in a car. Once past the station, you will drive about 2 miles to the Visitor Center/Fort entrance to park. You will see the trailhead for the Multiuse Trail on the left when you first reach the parking lot. The bathrooms are located next to the Visitor Center.
Cancellation Policy: Event will be held rain or shine but may be cancelled if weather threatens safety such as in the case of lightning or high winds in the forecast. Also, if the heat index is forecast to be over 103, then the outing will be cancelled. Participants are advised to check Meetup for current status before traveling to the event. Events may need to be cancelled at short notice.

Join me for a beautiful and relaxing approximately 5.6 mile hike on the green loop, the yellow trail (out to the Tolomato River), and the purple loop through the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. It will be a nice, easy hike through mostly leaf covered dirt with a few small areas of sand. This hike is mostly flat with only small changes in elevation. We will be doing about 20-22 minute miles and there will be stops for water breaks and possible wildlife sightings. This hiking loop is mostly shaded. There are 2 parking areas. When you pull in, you will enter a large parking area and if you continue straight, there is a smaller parking area at the trailhead. You can park at either. It is about .2 miles from the large parking area to the trailhead. There is a $3.00 parking fee, and you must pay using your phone (to scan the QR code) and a credit card.
