Sierra Club Service Trip And Picnic To Burke Lake Park, Fairfax County VA.

Details
Come out and enjoy a Sierra Club PRO and Sierra Club Great Falls Group Service Trip and Picnic at Burke Lake Park. Located in Fairfax County Virginia, Burke Lake is the largest lake in Fairfax County, with a five mile lakeshore circuit trail, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, camping, golf, and unique passenger train. In the spirit of recently celebrated Earth Day, we will be clearing trash from the lakeshore trail before enjoying the picnic before noon. There will also be a discussion about the effort to stop the wholesale removal of the tree canopy along the extremely popular W&OD Trail from Arlington to Leesburg. Meet at 9AM at the Burke Lake Park Parking Lot near the Amphitheater. The picnic will be at Shelter D. To avoid the out of county park entrance fee, inform the entrance attendant that you are with the Sierra Club. Bring hiking boots, work gloves, trail snacks and quart of water. Trash bags and other tools provided. For our picnic, bring a cup, plate, and eating utensils. Food and beverages provided. Participants have the option to participate in either the trail work or picnic or both at this special event at Burke Lake Park.
Leaders: Glenn Gillis 571-217-4477 and Ann Stanford 703-599-1118. Special guest: Susan Bonney from the Sierra Club Great Falls Group.
