Overview

Relaxed, beginner-friendly nature stroll to glimpse swans, perfect for new walkers and nature lovers seeking a peaceful outdoor moment.

Details

Tentative date depending on weather: Join us on an easy 3.5. mile Woodmarsh trail walk on the Mason Neck peninsula. We will stop at the observation point to observe the swans. Trail is easy, mostly flat (100 feet elevation gain), can be slippery if wet, and we will need to traverse two fallen trees on the trail.
Numbers are limited due to small parking lot, and start time is based on tide tables and optimal time to see swans. However, swans are unpredictable, and may be there whether it's low or high tide.
Location: Enter "Woodmarsh Trail Parking" on your GPS device, in case the location link does not work. The small trail parking lot is the first left after turning off Gunston Rd onto Highpoint Rd, the entrance toward Mason Neck State Park, only 2 min or 0.7 miles from turnoff as shown in the second photo. If you reach the attendant's booth for the park, you have gone too far.
Level: Easy
Cost: $2 donation is appreciated to support our volunteer-led programs.
Bring: Dress for the weather. Bring water, poles (if needed), good walking shoes, and binoculars.
Cancellation Policy: Heavy rain cancels.
