Celebrate the Christmas Holiday Season with a Sierra Club PRO hike at Oatlands National Historic Trust in Loudoun County, Virginia. Located below Bull Run Mountain south of Leesburg along the Journey Through Hallowed Ground, Oatlands offers a historic mansion and garden, hardwood forests, meandering creeks, open meadows, and scenic views of the Virginia Horse Country. Just south of Oatlands lies Oak Hill, which was the home of President James Monroe. Recently purchased by the Conservation Fund, its expected that this 1,200 estate will become a new Virginia State Park. Oatlands hiking distance: 5 miles over rolling terrain. Bring a daypack, hiking boots, cold weather clothing, lunch, trail snacks, and quart of water. Meet at 10:30 AM at the main parking lot of the Oatlands Carriage House Visitor Center off of Route 15.
