Hike on Mesa de Los Viejos near Ghost Ranch

Mesa de Los Viejos lies just north of the Chama River west of Ghost Ranch. It affords long sweeping views of the Chama River, Abiquiu Lake, and the Chama River Wilderness. We will be walking on the CDT that runs across the edge of the mesa. Driving distance one way of about 125 miles. Elevation gain of about 750 feet. Total hiking distance round trip of about 10-12 miles, all on trail. The drive is all on pavement except for the last 4-5 miles which are normally good gravel roads. We'll park near the abandoned bridge across the Chama River prior to the monestary. NO DOGS or WHINERS! I would rate this hike as MODERATE, because we'
ll be on trail the entire time. If for some reason the weather does not want to cooperate, we'll detour to Ghost Ranch and hike a trail there. Get there early so we can make carpool decisons, we leave at 7AM!
