Hi Everyone,

We hope you are doing great!

This month as a special event we have two ladies speaking at the Sri Lankan Data Community on Data Engineering and Data Science.

SESSION #1: Traffic accident hotspot prediction using MLP

Session details:
Artificial Neural Networks are computer modules that have designed to process knowledge, for prediction, classification, feature mining, clustering, and recognizing patterns. With the purpose of modeling complex relationships between inputs and outputs. ANN is responsive for the new inputs which are not previously stored in the data set. This technique work as the human brain. As a result of this ANN is using for medicine, engineering, and any other related industries for the betterment of humankind. The Traffic accident has posed a threat to the safety of human life. Typically an accident occurs in certain areas. Let's see how we can use ANN to analyze data and predict traffic accident hotspots.

SESSION #2: SQL Serverless in Azure Synapse Analytics – A door opener to MDWH for SQL developers

Session details:
The modern data warehouse approach is mostly about the cloud, data lakes, big data technologies, semi- and unstructured data…

A lot of buzzwords that might be scaring or at least dissuasive for classical BI Pros and SQL Developers. Do you really need to learn new languages and technologies to get started in the MDWH world? How about our good old SQL?

Azure Synapse Analytics offers an integrated DWH platform, combining the best technologies available for the job. This includes also the former Azure SQL DWH, now renamed to Dedicated SQL pools. But again, this is somewhat SQL, but not the same. And isn’t this expensive? And I need Polybase to get to the data in the lake. Not what are you looking for?

Serverless SQL pools is the other SQL-based offering in Azure Synapse Analytics. Let’s have a look into how they allow you to interact with the data in the lake. We’ll try and see how easily we can get started with it, which functionality SQL Serverless already offers and what might still be lacking. Highlights and pitfalls. And a bit about cost control.
