So Cal Explorers Meetup is the antidote to a hyper-digital, disconnected world. We gather for fun, relaxed outings to explore the most iconic, historic, quirky, and lesser-known corners of Southern California—and beyond—together. Whether it's a walking tour, hike, museum visit, movie night, or group travel abroad, our adventures are all about learning, exploring, and enjoying each other's company.
We're not a dating group. We're not a networking group. We're simply a welcoming space for adults to connect, laugh, and build friendships—without pressure, expectations, or hidden agendas.
We also care deeply about our communities and the world around us. From time to time, that means participating in charitable efforts or showing up for causes and issues we feel strongly about—including peaceful protests. Not every event is centered on this, but these values are part of who we are. If that’s not something you’re interested in—or if it feels uncomfortable—this group may not be the right fit, and that’s okay.
Our crew is mostly progressive, slightly irreverent 40- to 60-somethings with a love for counter-culture and curiosity. But all open-minded adults (18+) are welcome!

Eight visually rich vignettes drawn from Kurosawa’s own dreams—fox weddings and vanished orchards, a soldier’s ghosts, a walk through Van Gogh’s canvases, nuclear nightmares, and a water-mill utopia—meditate on childhood, art, mortality, and humanity’s uneasy bond with nature.
Dreams holds a unique place in Akira Kurosawa’s career and reputation. It’s often regarded as one of his most personal and spiritual works–a literal painting of his imagination come to life. Don’t miss a chance to see it on the big screen

Admission and parking are free.For parking: Follow directional signs to park in Palo Verde North & South Parking Structures, G13, and G14 Lots (Palo Verde near Atherton).

HERE'S A LINK TO THE MAPCalifornia State University, Long Beach’s annual Pow Wow at Puvungna, an American Indian social celebration, is the largest spring event of its kind in Southern California. The Pow Wow is focused on displaying the university’s strong American Indian presence. Admission and parking are free. The two-day event, which will feature American Indian dancing, arts, crafts and food begins at 11 AM each day and runs until 10 PM on Saturday and 6 PM on Sunday. In addition to dance contests and inter-tribal dancing, there will be California Indian Cultural Presentations, Gourd dancing, and Native foods, such as mutton and beef stew, Navajo tacos, fry bread, and Indian burgers will be on sale at the event, and American Indian vendors will be selling both traditional and contemporary American Indian art.

Entry is free but parking is $25 per car and requires a reservation, so carpooling is recommended. Credit cards only, no cash! No walk-ins allowed! PLEASE RSVP RESPONSIBLY!!

Entrance Information for Drivers
Please note you must use the northbound, right-hand lane of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) to access the Getty Villa entrance. Turning left across PCH from the southbound lanes is illegal and entrance via Coastline Drive is not allowed.There is no street parking available. Visitors must park at the Getty Villa as a condition of the Conditional Use Permit issued by the City of Los Angeles. Walk-in visitors will not be permitted to enter the site unless they arrive by public bus.
LUNCH:
I propose we have lunch on the grounds of the museum, which are quite nice. There is a cafeteria to purchase food or you can bring a picnic. There are lots of restaurants in the area if you prefer that.ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
"Among their rigorous preparations for eternity, ancient Egyptians developed an intricate set of religious writings to help the deceased achieve a blessed afterlife in union with the solar god Re and the netherworld god Osiris. Known collectively as the Book of the Dead, these ritual spells were inscribed on funerary objects. This exhibition, previously shown in 2023, features Getty's Book of the Dead manuscripts, illuminating how ancient Egyptians understood the cosmos, the world of the gods, and the nature of existence."OPTIONAL TOURS:
