OVERVIEW:
You may be familiar with the scenic trails around Lake Needwood in Derwood (Rockville), MD, but are you aware of the "shocking" death at the doorstep of nearby Needwood Mansion? This 3rd installment in the Haunted History Hike series combines stunning autumnal vistas with the sordid secrets of a spooky hilltop home. Afterward, bring a chair and join us for a free lakeside picnic featuring themed snacks, sweets, and spirits of the liquid kind. Halloween attire is optional but wholeheartedly encouraged. Let's have some ghostly fun! :)

MEETING:
Our meeting point at Lake Needwood will be the rear of the "Spillway Parking Area." (This is the lot where the Rock Creek Trail begins.) Keep driving through the park until you pass the Boat Center. Spillway is the next parking lot on the right (look for the sign). Porta-potties are available.
THE HIKE:
This event is a creative collab between PapaDuck (aka Carl) and the incomparable Carmen, who has graciously agreed to lead the hike. Following a group photo at the overlook, Carmen will be your guide for a casual, scenic, 3-mile loop around the lake, including a mid-hike excursion to the mansion, where PapaDuck will join you to share its history and supernatural secrets. There are a couple of hills, but elevation gain is less than 200 feet. Expect some rocks and roots, although sturdy sneakers should work fine. Well-behaved dogs who keep their owners on a short (6-foot) leash are welcome.
THE PICNIC:
Following the haunted mansion visit, as you're completing your hiking adventure, PapaDuck will head back to the start and set up an optional scenic picnic next to the water. There will be FREE themed snacks, sweets, wine, and 'shine. Feel free to bring your own lunch, personal ghost stories to share, and a CAMP CHAIR or blanket (in case picnic tables aren't available).
