Let's talk about CI/CD. What does it mean to "deliver often"? How does that map to product development? How do you create that change? What does a perfect CI/CD practice look like?
The Next Software Crafters Sydney is scheduled for 27 July at the Elasticsearch office in Wynyard. We'll run an advanced company scenario-based simulation to exercise the application of CI/CD solutions. This workshop is worth over A$10000 in equivalent workshop consultancy fees. The scenarios are very tricky and all of them represent real companies (with their names changed). It's a practical real-life exercise with little theory.
You'll represent your team in a company with a lot of issues and will exercise your creativity to solve their software delivery concerns from a STRATEGIC standpoint. As a developer, this will certainly take you out of your comfort zone.
As this is an expensive hands-on workshop with a significant setup effort, there are limited spots available.

Elasticsearch Platform will be hosting the event and providing catering.

The CI/CD Working Group
- Each attendant who wants to participate will self-assess themselves on CI/CD proficiency and be assigned to a Working Group (it's like a Community of Practice).
- Each Working Group (WG) will have a scenario describing the company, the business domain, the issues the company is having, and the outcome required from that working group in regard to CI/CD. The outcome will be a strategy plan to present to executives in order to get approval.
- The persona you are representing is the technical lead from your team in the company, there’s nobody better than you to attend this first working group meeting on behalf of your team. Your team has varied levels of experience of CI/CD but you can use your own experience as a summary of the skillset for the team you’re representing.
- At the end of part 1, elect a representative to present the outcomes of the WG to the rest of the attendants of the event. Time to present will be defined based on the number of working groups available.
- I’ll be sitting at a table, you can visit me at any time if you have any questions, I’ll be acting as Product Owner, CEO, and any other role that might be necessary to answer your questions. I can only answer one question at a time in a few minutes. If questions take too long to be asked, you might have to leave and you won’t get the answer. This is a limitation that is part of the scenario.
Sharing the Outcomes
- Each working group will share their own discoveries in a timeboxed presentation slot
- I there’s time left after every working group has shared their discoveries, we’ll discuss the exercise and the outcomes in a Fishbowl session till the end of the event
Audio/Video Recording
This event will be recorded for the purpose of sharing it with crafters who couldn't be present on the day. Click here to go to the Youtube channel.
By doing an RSVP, you agree to participate in the recording; if you don't want to be recorded, please talk to one of the organisers.
Talk to your friends!
Please invite a colleague, or a friend, especially if they are taking their first steps into software development! Bonus points if they have a different perspective on the subject; this will enrich the conversation.
See you there!
