Bernie Dunn is the Director of FAIR Enablement at the FAIR Institute, where she leads global education initiatives to advance the adoption of Cyber Risk Quantification (CRQ) using the FAIR model. A Certified FAIR Trainer and Executive Cyber Risk Management adjunct professor, Bernie specializes in helping organizations translate technical cyber data into business-relevant risk insights that inform strategic decision-making. With a background spanning cyber risk education, program enablement, and executive coaching, she has developed training programs that empower cybersecurity and risk leaders to build measurable, defensible risk practices. Passionate about bridging the gap between technical and business teams, Bernie’s work focuses on growing the next generation of CRQ practitioners and advancing the maturity of the FAIR community worldwide.

Demystifying Cyber Risk Quantification: A Practical Introduction to FAIR

Summary:
Cybersecurity leaders are increasingly being asked to express risk in business terms—but how do you translate technical vulnerabilities into financial impact? In this session, attendees will be introduced to FAIR (Factor Analysis of Information Risk), the international standard for quantifying cyber risk in economic terms. You’ll learn the basic components of the FAIR model, how it differs from traditional heat maps, and why leading organizations use it to prioritize investments and communicate risk to executives.

Practical takeaways include understanding how to frame a simple FAIR analysis, estimate probable loss, and use data you already have to make cyber risk measurable, comparable, and defensible.
