What we’re about

We are a group of friendly people doing weekly 10k (6.2 mile) and/or 5K (3.1 mile) walks all around the south sound. We walk for fitness, so these are not strolls. Expect to finish walks within 2 1/2 hours, depending on stops. All walks are American Volkssport Association (AVA) sanctioned. Everyone is welcome to join us. Just show up and be ready to walk at the posted time. We need to register to each walk at the start location, so allow for that. It's important to join the group. Otherwise, you won't get reminders or changes and cancellations.
There are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday walks every week. Wintertime you'll see some cancellations that are weather dependent. You may also see some Tuesday -- late afternoons into evening as days grow longer. There will be weekend walks with a group walk start time when the one of our clubs is putting on a traditional, staffed event.
Most all walks are dog friendly (with leash and cleanup, of course,) unless it's through a wildlife area. We'll say in the directions.

I-5 Southbound Exit 95, STRAIGHT onto Maytown Road, LEFT on Case Road, 4.4 miles to big parking lot on RIGHT. A Washington Parks Discover Pass needed for parking in the wildlife area lot.

The walk is 10K (6.2 mile) on dirt/gravel trails and grass. There is also a 5K (3.1 mile) option. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Well-behaved, leashed dogs permitted with owner clean up.

This walk is hosted by the Capitol Volkssport Club. Everyone is welcome, but everyone must sign the waiver to participate. The club has costs to put on these walks, so we ask for a donation to help offset those costs.

We'll drive to the start of the walk at the trailhead near the Veterans Memorial from the registration meetup location. Be sure to arrive in enough time to register at Arrow Lumber and drive to the trailhead. We start walking from the trailhead promptly at 10:00 am.

We will walk a little bit of town and a little bit of neighborhoods then onto the Buckley stretch of the Foothills Trail, pasting the log show arena and Loggers Memorial to the new trail bridge crossing the White River. On the other side of the bridge, the 5K will turn around while the 10K will continue on the trail to the south end of Enumclaw. This is Volkssport event Y963, rated a 1A for flat, even footing.

Although dogs are allowed on leash, pitbulls are not allowed by city statute.

Everyone must register before the walk. IVV credit is $3.00. Guests are always welcome. A suggested donation of $3 is suggested to help support volkssport activities. You can also register for this event in the AVA Online Start Box.

Come walk with us! Please arrive early to allow time to register. After registering, there is a short drive to the start point.

This is a fairly easy 10K (6.2 mile) walk, however about half of the walk is a long downhill (and return uphill) on a packed dirt/gravel trail. There is also a 5K (3.1 mile) option that is essentially flat and on sidewalks.

This walk is hosted by the Capitol Volkssport Club. Everyone is welcome, but everyone must sign the waiver to participate. Club members do not usually sign up using Meetup, but you can expect between five and 10 club members on a Thursday walk.

THE WALKS ARE AVAILABLE FRIDAY MAY 23 THROUGH MONDAY MAY 26.
This multi-day event is open for registration each day from 8:00 to 2:00. Each walk will have a featured day when group walks will be available.

Registration Location: Haines Place Park and Ride 440 12th St., Port Townsend, WA
All walks start from Haines Place Park & Ride in Port Townsend at the back of the parking lot - look for our shelter. 6K Ft. Casey walkers will take a free Jefferson Transit bus to the ferry dock (or club shuttle on Sunday & Monday). Restrooms available at the start and along the route. $4 fee per walkers per event. Ferry roundtrip tickets to Whidbey Island are $8.50 (Seniors 65+ - $4.20).

Each walk will have a featured day and group walks available but you may walk any walk on any day.

Friday Featured Walk: Ft Flagler, Marrowstone Island.
Featured group walk Friday 23 May at 10:00. Meet at Ft. Flagler State Park at the parking area just past the parade grounds (intersection of Flagler & Wansboro roads) Ft. Flagler walkers must drive 20 miles to Marrowstone Island for the start. Restrooms available at the start and along the route. $4 fee per walkers per event. Discovery Pass required to park at the state park. Registration on site available that day.

Featured group walk Sunday 25 May at 10:00. Meet at Haines Place parking area in Port Townsend. Haines Place Park & Ride (Jefferson Transit) - 440 12th St., Port Townsend, WA 98368.Parking is north of WA-20 in Port Townsend beside the Safeway and McDonalds. Parking in the rear parking lot where the start tent will be set up. Walkers will take a free bus or club shuttle to the ferry dock (optional +4km walk) for the ride to Whidbey Island.
