PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE EVENT DESCRIPTION

This will be our first time playing SaKi this year. The forecast for Thursday is completely different depending on which app you are checking. Some say 20% chance of rain, others say 50% chance of rain. I'm going to schedule it and see how everything looks Thursday afternoon.

New Location

*** We're going to be playing in the outfield of Armstrong Field in the South Side between 12th and 13th St, just off Carson St. I have enough netting (along with the high fences surrounding the field) to give us a fully enclosed "arena," something we've never had before. It's going to come at the cost of a slightly smaller field but I'll make some adjustments that will still make it feel similar to previous games.

Because of the new location, you might need to pay for parking for the entire event. Please keep that in mind. ***

SaKi runs the smoothest 5 vs 5 (plus 2 goalies) with subs, just like in the NHL. It gives everyone more space to develop plays and makes it safer for everyone not having more people trying to hit the ball with their stick.

My goal for this game was to create something easy and fun but not something that requires a very large field like most of the other outdoor activities I normally run (kickball, flag football and ultimate frisbee). I came up with SaKi, a mix between Soccer and Hockey that is played on grass.

Here are some of the basics for the game:

  • The ball is a small soccer ball that is very soft.
  • There will be what looks like a 3-point line in basketball around the goal on each side. If you are behind the line you can shoot with your feet OR your stick. If you are past the line you must shoot with your stick.
  • There will be a box around the goal that no players may be in (including a team's defense) except the goalie.
  • No offsides or icing.
  • Wrist shots only (no high-sticks or slapshots).
  • No physical contact between players.
  • Cleats, shin guards and gloves are permitted but not required.
  • No experience necessary with soccer or hockey.
  • All necessary equipment will be provided.

Feel free to bring your own hockey stick if you have one you are comfortable with but I have more than enough sticks for whoever shows up.

Cleats are strongly suggested, as well as plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
