01/10/2026, 21 miles +/- Overnighter. High Bluff Camp Site.
Details
Permit has been obtained. Spots are limited. RSVP is open. If you are on the "Going list" and know you will not attend change your RSVP to "Not going". There are others waiting to hike the trail if you're not.
Most folks go to the woods to get away from the noise and nonsense of daily living. If you must have music bring ear buds or headphones. If you have a need to "PARTY" this event is not for you! Thank you for your consideration.
Past Events: I led this hike for the first time last season and it was a great success according to those that participated regardless of the destruction from Milton we had to navigate around and through. I expect it will be less grueling this time around as recovery activities have been ongoing and trail conditions have improved.
This will be rain or shine, 21 miles +/-, two-day out & back hike to High Bluff camp site. The hiking pace will be "hike your own hike".
1. Everyone is to meet at the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve trailhead (Ranch Road) parking lot Saturday morning no later than 8:30 a.m. I plan to begin trekking at 9 a.m. Our first day will cover 12 miles +/- and our overnight destination will be High Bluff camp site in Green Swamp West.
2. There will be no prepositioned supplies available for this event. You will be responsible for providing all your equipment needs, food, and water. The Withlacoochee River will be our primary water source. Water filtering/purification is highly recommended. Saturday night campfires will depend on wood availability in the surrounding area.
3. Sunday, plan to step out about 9 a.m. and hike 8 miles +/- back to the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve trailhead (Ranch Road) parking lot.
4. I plan to have lunch at a local restaurant on Sunday after the hike. Please join me!
