Have you visited Weekiwachee Preserve? This preserve is a picturesque combination of open spaces and crystal blue lakes with bright white outcroppings. Wading birds call this home, roosting here at the end of the day. Other inhabitants include black bears.

Once an active limestone quarry, this area is now under the protection of the Southwest Florida Water Management District, and is open to walk, cycle, picnic, hunt, and fish. Crystal clear water has filled the quarry pits, creating peaceful lakes with steep banks (swimming is not allowed).

We will cover between 8 and 9 miles, walking on wooded paths and old roads tightly packed with limestone and shells; the entrance is paved as well. We will take our break on the "summit" of Mt. Weekiwachee!

Bring at least 2 liters of water, hat and sunscreen as much of this hike will be in the sun. Please leave pets at home.

Please note: your image must be visible on your Meetup profile photo to attend this event.

After the hike consider joining us for lunch at the Silver Dolphin, Hernando Beach!
