Who We Are
Welcome to Suncoast Nature Society! We are a 20s/30s community based around Sarasota & Bradenton who share a love for nature, science and outdoor activities. Our events foster an appreciation for the natural world and strengthen our local community by providing opportunities to build new friendships and relationships.

What We Do
We organize a diverse range of activities to cater to different interests and provide exciting opportunities to connect with nature and fellow enthusiasts. Our events include:
- Socialize: Connect with local nature enthusiasts in your age range, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. These gatherings offer a refreshing alternative to conventional nightlife, allowing you to meet others who share your passion for nature and outdoor adventures.
- Nature Walks: Embark on group walks through our local trails and state parks, identifying local flora and fauna and discussing their ecological roles.
- Stargazing Adventures: Explore the night sky with telescopes and guides, uncovering the mysteries of constellations and celestial events.
- Fossil Hunting Expeditions: Unearth ancient treasures on trips to local geological sites, learning about the history and science of fossils.
- Natural Springs Exploration: Discover unique ecosystems and geological formations while enjoying a refreshing dip in crystal-clear waters.
- Snorkeling Excursions: Dive into underwater adventures, exploring vibrant marine life and learning about ocean conservation.

A Note on Inclement Weather
Florida’s weather can be quite unpredictable! While we’ll do our best to provide updates on event pages if we anticipate changes, please keep in mind that rain is always a possibility. If the rain is light and expected to pass quickly, we'll usually proceed with the event as planned. However, if the weather becomes too challenging, we may relocate to a nearby restaurant to keep the fun going!

Fishing at Sharky’s Pier
Sharky's On the Pier, 1600 Harbor Drive South, Venice, FL, US### Fishing at Sharky’s Pier
Spend the morning on one of the most iconic stretches of Gulf coastline—walking the Venice Fishing Pier, spotting wildlife, swapping fishing stories, and catching sunset views over the water. Whether you’re bringing a rod or just coming to hang out, this is an easy, social outdoor meetup with plenty to explore: the pier, the beach, and the Brohard Park area.
Fishing is allowed from the pier without a fishing license, and there’s a bait shop partway out on the pier if you want to rent a rod or grab bait. sharkysonthepier.com ($16 for rod rental)

### What to Bring
- Water + snacks (no glass containers on the pier)
- Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and a light layer (it can get breezy on the pier)
- Fishing gear if you have it (optional)
- Cash/card if you want bait or rentals at Papa’s Bait Shop (midway down the pier)
- A respectful “shared space” vibe (it can get busy on weekends)
### What to Expect
- Easy meetup flow: Arrive, say hi, then we’ll fish out on the pier together as people fish or wander.
- Sunset + wildlife: Birds, dolphins, and classic Gulf views.
- Optional food/drinks: Those who want can roll straight into Sharky’s afterward

About the Event:
- Paddling: Beginners and experienced welcome! Bring your kayak or paddle board, or if you don't have one, you can rent one locally but do so in advance to ensure you get one.
- Rentals: **If you do not have a kayak or paddle board, you may rent one via Kayaking SRQ to reserve a rental. Their rates are below, including taxes:
$30 for Single Kayak
$45 for Tandem Kayak
$40 for Standup Paddleboard
What to Bring:
- Small backpack (dry bag is ideal)
- Water or camel pack
- Life jacket (if you don't have one, you can use one with your rental)
- Snacks
- Sunglasses
- Sun Hat
- Light clothes, SPF 30+
What to Expect:
- Make new friends
- Scenic waterfront views
- Relaxing atmosphere
