Time for another social catch-up, and there's a fair bit to talk about this month.

This one's timely.

The Federal Budget just delivered the biggest change to how crypto is taxed in Australia in 25 years. The 50% CGT discount we've all relied on since 1999 is being scrapped. In its place we get inflation-based indexation and a new 30% minimum tax on capital gains. It starts from July 2027, with a transition period for anything bought before budget night.

So if you're holding long term, or trading, this changes the maths a fair bit. There's been a lot of noise about it and not much clarity, so let's have a proper chat about what it actually means.
It's not only happening here either.
