Sunshine Adventure Hike 1/28: Picacho Peak 🥾☀️🪢

Let’s enjoy the cables and ropes of the adventure favorite, Picacho Peak! We will be hiking the Picacho Peak Hunter Trail.

The trail itself is relatively short at 3.3 miles out and back, but it’s the steep climbs with stairs, cables and ropes that make this a fun challenge with 2100 feet of elevation. Gloves are recommended but not critical, helpful for spots where you grab the cables along the way. We start from the steep front approach to the saddle, then a small break down some stairs and finally up some switchbacks and cable climbs to the top.

We will be taking breaks along the way. As far as adventure hikes go, this one is moderately challenging physically and decently challenging mentally when it’s your first time (having the group helps with nerves, for sure).

As for all of our adventure hikes, we will be staying together as much as possible, but if things get challenging, please go at your own pace. Please be prepared to turn around and head back safely if that is the case.

We will convene at the trailhead at 7:55 for introductions and begin our hike at 8:00am. Expect to return to the parking lot just after 11am if you stay with the main group.

Please note the 8am start time!!

Picacho Peak State Park charges an entry fee which can be paid onsite.

Please bring water and sunscreen, hiking poles may be helpful for the rocky incline and decline. Gloves highly recommended but not terrible if you don’t bring any (some cables where we use our hands, gloves help with grip).

The weather forecast right now calls for 48 degrees at the start and 61 degrees by the time we finish, a tad chilly! I recommend layers. This hike is very exposed.

We will be taking pictures and posting them to our group Facebook page. Thank you for your consent to post by joining our hike 😎

Hope to see you out there!

Thanks,
