Introducing: The First-Ever Suspense Club Meetup
Details
Calling all storytellers, page-turners, and lovers of suspense…
Dramatic tension? Check.
Unexpected twists?
Add a little creative chaos. Oh yes.
All that’s missing is you.
Join us at Strathpine Library (next to the train station, with free parking) for a fun, free creative afternoon where writers and readers come together to explore storytelling, suspense, and page-turning fiction.
Whether you’re a writer with a wild idea or a reader who devours thrillers — this is a relaxed, no-pressure environment to connect, be inspired, and maybe even walk away with a mission.
Film producer and story teller Thomas Mai will reveal his 10 no-fluff, cliffhanger-packed rules for writing stories readers can’t put down.
At the end of the session, writers will be invited to take on a bold, fun creative challenge: write the first chapter of a suspense story in 30 days.
Writers who accept will join a small, supportive author cohort and meet online with Thomas twice during the month for coaching and feedback. No pressure, all for free — just a collaborative space to get your story moving and your ideas on the page.
Then, we come back together for a Live Reading Afternoon, where writers read their chapters aloud and readers hear them first — raw, unfiltered, and straight from the creative furnace.
This isn’t just a writer event — readers are essential. Your presence makes the stories real. Your reactions shape what comes next.
Here’s the pact: writers promise to come back with a chapter. Readers promise to come back and listen. Simple, exciting, and suspenseful in all the right ways.
Who should come?
Writers who want a reason to finally start.
Readers who love discovering fresh, raw storytelling.
Creative minds craving connection, challenge, and a little mystery.
Anyone who’s ever said “I’ve got an idea…” and needed a reason to act on it.
This is your excuse to create something — or help someone else do it. It’ll be relaxed, inspiring, and just a little dangerous (in the best way). There will be cliffhangers. And you just might walk out with a mission — or a promise to return.
About the host: Hi, I’m Thomas Mai. I’ve produced 8 independent feature films, was CEO of Lars von Trier’s international film sales company Trust Film Sales, and helped finance and sell Oscar-, Cannes-, and Berlin-winning films around the world. I’ve also raised millions in crowdfunding for first-time filmmakers — and now I spend my time helping writers build stories and audiences.
So… naturally, I thought: Why not try something even harder? Like building a storytelling platform from scratch?
