Weekend Getaway (Day 2): Bike ride Dunedin to Tarpon Springs (~ 28 miles r/t)
Details
This (by now standard) getaway is supposed to be a social event and involves an overnight stay in Dunedin from Saturday, November 8th to Sunday, November 9th. In case you don't want to spend the night in Dunedin, you can still sign up for any of the two days individually. Please sign up for each day you would like to attend so that we know whom to expect.
Day 2 (November 9th): Join us for a bike ride from Dunedin to Tarpon Springs (28 miles r/t, speed 10 - 12 mph).
Let's meet at 09:50 AM in front of the History Museum at 349 Main Street.
Kick off will be at 10:00 AM.
Along the ride we will explore the village of Ozona, Chrystal Beach and the beautiful Wall Springs Park where we will take a break.
Once in Tarpon Springs, we will check out the area along Spring Bayou and Craig Park where thousands gather every January 6th for the annual Epiphany celebration. We should be able to see some wonderful samples of Victorian homes such as the Safford House which is now a museum. From there we will ride over to Saint Michael Shrine, where the faithful have reported miracles for decades.
After we park our bikes at the usual spots near the city marina or across the restaurant, we will have lunch at Mama's Greek Cuisine. It is always a good choice with plenty of covered outdoor seating.
Once we are back in Dunedin, we might end the day with a drink at one of the microbrews.
During the ride we will use the trail, streets and some sidewalks where necessary. All are paved, means all bikes are fine.
This will be a social event and no race, so please don't rush it. You are free to leave early and return at your own speed but PLEASE let us know before you take off.
Please make sure you wear sunscreen, have sufficient water with you and check your bike before we leave. A bike lock would be great.
