We're looking forward to another great meetup at Amazon HQ! Please join us for pizza, drinks and two great presentations.
Join Azi Farjad, Developer Evangelist of Amazon Alexa, as she demonstrates 'How to Create a Voice-First Experience with Visuals.' Azi will walk through a demo of how to build for multi-modal devices like the Echo Spot with tips, tricks, and best practices to get started. Voice needs to be the primary interaction method with Alexa, even when designing for devices with screens like the Echo Spot. This session will walk through how to design your voice interaction first and then think about how you can enhance the conversation with visuals for your skill.
We're also excited to have Peter Nann present 'Voice Design - Top 10 Tips to make your VUI sing!' (not literally). In this presentation Peter will go through practical tips that most developers can use to quickly (and often easily) improve the quality of the voice experience for users. Developers, designers and organisations often fall into the trap of thinking that voice design is easy - "We all have decades of experience conversing, right?" and/or "Amazon has made this easy!" The truth is, natural conversation is subtle and hard to codify - even with the best tools - and it's easy to create a voice interface that seems workable (especially to an engineer), but which is down-right unnatural, robotic, even painful and confusing.
We're also giving away an Amazon Echo Spot to attendees with an active Alexa developer account. If you don’t have a developer account, go to https://developer.amazon.com/alexa-skills-kit/anz and sign-in to create an account. To receive an entry into the draw, go to https://developer.amazon.com/mycid.html to access your vendor ID. You'll need to show this vendor ID on your phone to James Ang at the meetup to get a raffle ticket. You must be present in order to receive the Spot.
