Hi All, to keep you going with your monthly fill of data engineering, we will be bringing you an in-person edition this month at Thoughtworks (next to Wynyard Station). We have 3 amazing talks for the evening!

Speakers:
🎤 Kunal Tiwary, Lead Data Engineer, Thoughtworks
Data Mesh - Lessons you can bank on
The Data Mesh paradigm promotes the concept of Data Products which go beyond sharing of files and towards guarantees of quality and acknowledgement of data ownership. Working with a local financial services client, this talk will take you on a journey of creation of banking data products. More importantly, it will cover some of the lessons learned when trying to embrace a distributed Data Mesh architecture.

About Kunal - Kunal is a data and machine learning engineer who started his career as a software engineer before moving into data and machine learning space. He has built big data applications that enable applied analytics and AI in retail, banking, and internet publishing industries. Beyond his interest in data, Kunal is a proponent of functional programming principles and practices, and he is always keen to share this interest with others.

🎤 David Ndukwu, Chief Engineer, Cloud Solutions Engineering
Scaling Data Products Delivery Using Domain-Oriented Data Pipelines
The rise of the Data Products has become an important game changer for the modern data ecosystem. Though powerful in it's underlying philosophy, bringing a Data Product to life especially in a complex data environment can be quite daunting.
Scaling the delivery of Data Products necessitates well-thought-out and well-crafted Data Pipelines without which an enterprise risks losing out on the benefits of their investment.
In this session, I'll be describing some very important human and system considerations required for the design of robust domain-oriented data pipelines to meet the needs of an enterprise.

About David: David has extensive experience leading complex Data & Software Engineering program initiatives. He's worked for some of the large brands across Australia including being part of the team that delivered Australia's first big data streaming pipeline on AWS. David holds a doctorate in Computer Science from Macquarie University, Australia.

🎤 Simon Aubury, Principal Data Engineer, Thoughtworks
Goldilocks and the three data mesh bears
"Goldilocks and the Three Bears" is a popular story about a little girl named Goldilocks and her adventures exploring a house in the woods. We feel the menace of a monolithic architecture and know it’s not a great story for our own data infrastructure. But is Data Mesh the fairy tale answer? Data Mesh sits on the bookshelf and if we read the back-cover it promises a “socio-technical approach to embed the agile culture for data”. In this talk Goldilocks is going to explore what a Data Mesh is, understand what challenges and lessons need to be understood to get our approach just-right.

About Simon - Simon Aubury is a Principal Data Engineer at Thoughtworks Sydney. Simon describes his job to his children as being a “data geek”. Although it doesn’t impress his kids, he is proud to have worked around the globe building highly available distributed data systems for finance, transport, health care, insurance and telecommunications clients. Simon’s current passion is working with streaming technologies and data mesh architecture
