Getting Your Data Right

Details
tekMeetup is back with another in-person event in partnership with our mates, Jobadder! So far we've brought you events in engineering excellence, then helped you build product-centric organisations. Our next event is all about the importance of data from a higher level; helping you understand the importance of it, unlocking its full value, and also, how to help you bring along other stakeholders across the business for your data journey!
Our talks will not be supertechnical! A wide range of people will get value from what our speakers have to say. You may be a data engineer – you may be a CEO or maybe you’re in marketing; our speakers Simon, Shad, and Anya all have a wealth of knowledge in data and will be leveraging their experience using customer analytics to discuss common pitfalls, good practices, and other tips to get the most from your customer data.
Simon Aubury is a Principal Data Engineer at Thoughtworks Sydney. Simon describes his job to his children as being a “data geek”. Although it doesn’t impress his kids, he is proud to have worked around the globe building highly available distributed data systems for finance, transport, health care, insurance, and telecommunications clients. Simon’s current passion is working with streaming technologies and data mesh architecture. Simon will be discussing "surprising ways to realise value with data". Data adds huge value to companies and national economies. It’s at the heart of modern business success and economic development. But we’re leaving billions of dollars of value on the table. And "we" isn’t some abstract group of distant firms; it could include your own! Listen to Simon talk about data and the missed opportunities that can arise as a result..
Shad - An experienced commercial thinker, digital marketer, and a data science intellect, that enjoys delivering overall business growth, and ROI from performance marketing and growing the company's brand.
Shad will be discussing topics around how to best utilise data engineers and data scientists in your team, so they're the backbone of your approach in providing business impact and ROI. This will be a great talk for business leaders that want to improve on how they communicate and build rapport with their data teams, especially if you're non-technical. He’ll be covering his "fractionation" and "path to conversion" model developed by devs, the challenges he faces as a data leader, conveying business impacts, how to go beyond ROI, and how to bring your CEO, CFO, and sales teams along for the data journey.
Anya Chuga – With over 10+ years of experience in data Anya’s sole focus has been to increase transparency and bring insights to the hands of stakeholders. Her work across consultancies, fin tech, insurance, and now healthcare has only increased her passion for automation across data engineering and analytics. As a technical leader she has promoted company growth by focusing on flexibility across infrastructure, enhanced storytelling, and optimisation. Her motto has always been “if you conduct a task more than once, automate it". Anya will talk about automation and centralisation of knowledge and data and how to start painting a more powerful picture together.
tekmeetup is as much about networking as it is about learning. No egos–just a relaxed evening with food and drinks, to hear about all things data, and to network with your peers.
