About Artist Yeon (a.k.a. Yellow Duck)
Living as a small Korean woman, artist and mother in the Netherlands, I often find myself floating- moving gently between cultures, languages, and emotions.
The Yellowduck began as a self-portrait of that feeling: a small figure navigating a vast blue world. By dressing her in a Jobawi and a traditional vest, I bring fragments of Korea into this blue Dutch landscape. These garments — humble, intimate, and full of care — represent both protection and identity.
Against the delicate Delft Blue background, deeply rooted in Dutch tradition, the yellow duck - sometimes with her child - stands out as a warm pulse of life and humour. Together, they wander and always move forward through imagined landscapes that merge Korean memories with Dutch colours, creating a space that feels both foreign and familiar.
Through this little yellow duck, I seek to express the humour, nostalgia, and quiet courage that define the life of an immigrant woman — not as a story of loss, but of gentle transformation and becoming home.1 attendee
