The first ever Bluefield Books & Brews meetup
Details
Join me on October 21st in person for the very first Bluefield Books & Brews Club! We will be meeting the 3rd Tuesday of each month to discuss the book of the month. We will decide as a group what monthly book we will choose as we go. To start, for Spooky Season we will be reading a novel that is new to me. The book is: “An Unquiet Grave” by Sharyn McCrumb. The first meetup we will cover only chapters 1-12 as it is a 357 page book and I would rather we have a chance to read it at a reasonable pace.
The novel, which takes place in the mountains of West Virginia, tells the story of the 1897 Greenbrier Ghost case, where a murdered woman's ghost allegedly testified to identify her killer. The novel delves into themes of justice, folklore, the legal system, and the social dynamics of the time, particularly the challenges faced by a Black attorney in the era.
We will be sharing thoughts and feelings about the book over tea and coffee. A $5 donation is requested to cover the cost of tea, coffee and light snacks. If you feel so inclined to bring a snack to share please do! Lastly, if you have extra chairs to bring to the location it would be greatly appreciated.
PLEASE RSVP in advance so I know how many to expect. Spots will be limited. Hope to see you there!
