Patrick will discuss the physical processes and landforms affecting change in habitat conditions around Deveaux Bank. This dynamic shoal at the mouth of the North Edisto is an important stopping point for a number of migratory bird species and has experienced significant reductions in habitat over the past decade. Although the changes are dramatic, similar patterns have occurred in the past. With history as our guide, this presentation will address the future of shorebird habitat on Deveaux Bank and the implications for wildlife and humans as the shoal continues to evolve.
Patrick Barrineau is a coastal scientist and project manager for Coastal Science & Engineering, performing work in the field, laboratory and office while managing projects from New York to Georgia. He holds an MS in Geography from University of South Carolina and a PhD in Geography from Texas A&M University. In addition to his work at CSE, Dr. Barrineau teaches Coastal Zone Management at the University of South Carolina.
