Stokes State Forest - Normanook Ridge ~7 miles!
Details
Moderate 5-7 miles, about 960 ft total elevation gain. First 2 miles have a steady moderate climb to the Normanook Ridge and fire tower that includes one mildly-challenging scramble. We will continue South on the Appalachian Trail (White) and return by Coursen trail (Blue). We often go around the scenic Stony lake during the return leg. Let's meet at Kittle Field Day Use Area Parking Lot (https://goo.gl/maps/CLkMwQrN45xDFr3o6) about 10 minutes ahead of departure!
Bring plenty of water and snacks, and appropriate seasonal items (sun- and insect-protection in summer, and crampons in winter). Day-of-hike-only phone: 973-704-7362.
**Note** We hike at a moderate pace, and never leave anyone behind. Our hikes are not suitable for fast hikers who like to forge ahead of the group.
