Big Woods Trailhead, Fahnestock State Park
Details
This loop hike is one of the best in Clarence Fahnestock State Park, NY. It is especially nice during the fall as the leaves change colors.
While the loop does not have many viewpoints, it is still very scenic, passing through open fields, along streams and ponds.
The trail starts at the Charcoal Burners Trailhead right off of Route 301. After a short walk into the forest, you reach the start of the Perkins Trail marked with yellow discs. This section is a little rocky until you arrive at a dirt road and open fields. Here the trail crosses private property by way of an easement. There is a gate you must pass through that gives access to the easement. Please be sure to re-lock the gate so the farmers do not have any livestock wonder off.
Please arrive ten to fifteen minutes early because we plan to start promptly at the time listed.
If you RSVP "YES" and can't make it, PLEASE change your RSVP so that the next person on the waitlist can attend.
We do ask for a contribution of $3 per hike or $15 per year to cover meetup.com fees and if any money is leftover it goes towards our annual social event.
