Burn the concept mocks
Laura Summers
Bring your blow torches people, because it’s time to burn some shit down! We’ll discuss the high fidelity design phase and consider alternatives. We should be refining product UI in an iterative and component-driven way that matches the development flow - based on my earlier blog post of the same name (have a read if you have time! https://blog.prototypr.io/burn-the-concept-mocks-4afe78e5f7ab). Are you ready? Let’s do it! Let’s give ourselves permission to redesign the way we design.
Laura is a multi-disciplinary designer working across user experience research, design and front-end development for startups. Asking questions, unpacking assumptions and trying to get to the bottom of things are some of her favourite activities - supported by methodologies all the cool kids are using, such as Lean, Agile and Design Thinking. She's a passionate advocate for improving diversity in technology and ensuring our workplaces are welcoming and inclusive. Also: cats rule, dogs drool.
UX beyond the screen
Chris Gray
Voice interfaces have become mainstream in recent years with the rise of a range of consumer devices such as Google Home, Apple HomePod and Amazon's Alexa. For many, these devices represent an exciting opportunity for accessing information in a convenient way which is in stark contrast to the voice user interfaces frequently employed by corporates in their call centres which can at times be challenging to use. Whether we love or hate these interactions, they are here to stay. Chris will explore voice user interface design through a brief history of voice interfaces and consider the relevancy of existing UX principles for voice user interfaces.
Chris has dedicated his career to better understanding the needs of users and designing better products. His background in Psychology and 16 years of experience in Usability and UX design have given him an in-depth knowledge of how people interact with technology. He has worked with some of Australia's largest organisations including ANZ, Telstra and SEEK, and has also led the UX capability at Coles. Chris is the principal consultant and managing director at Nomat, a boutique User Centred Design firm that practices a pragmatic approach to research and design.
Accessibility beyond the screen
Adem Cifcioglu
For a long time, when we thought about accessibility, the first thing to come to mind was the Screen Reader on a computer.
With the proliferation of voice based products, (Google Home, Amazon echo, Siri and Cortana), warable technology, beacons, and even smart phones, that is starting to change.
In this presentation, we'll look at all things accessibility beyond the traditional screen.
