COPYRIGHT CONFIDENCE

If you own a business you own Intellectual Property, especially copyright, even if you are not a creative business. In this valuable The Business of Being Creative session, held at Redlands Sporting Club on Saturday 18th January, you will learn how to identify the copyright you own, how to protect it and how to capitalise and make money from it.

Andrea Smith of Applause Genie is a copyright expert, has been educating businesses on copyright for over twenty years. She is currently writing a book on copyright for small businesses and will share valuable tips on copyright ownership.

Andrea says “Most small businesses may not be aware of the copyright they own, thinking that it is exclusive to those in the arts. In this session I’ll talk about what you may own, staff and freelancer ownership, and outline areas to consider in both ownership and infringement”.

Joining Andrea presenting this session will be Andrew Tuttle, Manager – National Engagement from collecting society APRA AMCOS. Andrew will cover music copyright for songwriters and the procedures for staying legal for businesses and events.

This important session will set you up to make sure you are aware of and protect your valuable copyright and make sure you are respecting the copyright of others.

About The Speakers:
Andrea has been on the frontline of the creative industries in both creative and management sectors for the past 20 years, which has seen her excel as a graphic artist, venue and band manager for some of Queensland’s most iconic venues and artists. Andrea’s wealth of knowledge and the hands-on experience gained has allowed her to educate and mentor the current and future creative generation, helping them to shortcut their success in their own creative career. As a Success Strategist for Creatives, Andrea has a passion for helping performing, visual and craft artists become more sustainable as a business. She manages regular mentoring sessions and events and is currently writing a book on copyright for small business.

Andrew Tuttle works with both APRA AMCOS' 13000+ Queensland based songwriter/composer members and the broader music industry in his role as Manager – National Engagement. Having started at APRA AMCOS in early 2013, Andrew comes from a background of executive programming and project support roles for small and large arts organisations around Australia; as well as an extensive history as a promoter and writer. In addition to this, Andrew also records and performs ambient country music under his own name.
