What we’re about
Hey all! This is a new group here dedicated to hiking of ALL levels. Boots are not just for hiking, so we'll talk snow sports when the mountain's turn white again.
So as many of you probably know Shannon is shutting down Hikers and Company. She feels that it's run it's course, and I totally get. So in the shadow of a giant (insert nervous smiley face here) I hope this group will come close to replacing it. Shannon approves so far.
Obviously this is about hiking, but I may change the name to include other things. I'd like organizers to feel free to post what they want.
If you are already an organizer (or would like to be one) please let me know.
It's not free to run a Meetup group. I have no desire to require membership dues (which is an option in setting up a group I found out). So anything you can do to keep this site up would be appreciated.
Thank you Arthur for being a Co-Organizer on this.

Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Wandering Wednesdays is doing Training Hill plus ???Quarry Trail Parking Area, Auburn, CA
Due to trailhead closure and 150' of parking closures I have edited our parking and meeting area marked in Bold Below!
The weather in Cool/Pilot Hill is forecasted at a high of 74° with 15% chance of rain after 11 am on Wednesday. Lets take advantage of this cool weather and head to the Confluence in Auburn!
Wandering Wednesdays is doing Training Hill, Olmsted, Upper Salt Creek, Knickerbocker, Wendell Robie Loop or just explore a bit to get in about 8-9 miles or more if the group wants to. Here is the track for our last hike here in June. https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/afternoon-hike-49ae49a-808?u=i&sh=hnvpqh
The climb up Training Hill is 1,000' in the first mile then we'll do some rolling hill hiking around Olmsted and work our way back down Wendell Robie back to the cars. This will be about a 1700' overall gain or more. Our end time posted is estimated. It depends on the speed of the group. If you are someone who hasn't done Training Hill and have never hiked with me, you are welcome to join us but please know your abilities as Training Hill (TH) is a strenuous climb then another 700' overall beyond TH.
Things to bring:
Weather appropriate cloths and hiking footwear, plenty of water & electrolytes, energy snacks and a lunch if you like.
I suggest rain gear as there is a slight chance of rain.

An adventurous and positive attitude!!!Be ready to hike by 8:30 am. Please give yourself enough time to get through the workerbee traffic to be on time and not hold up the group.
Parking and the start of our hike has been edited due to the River Cleanup Project.
We will meet at the Quarry Parking Lot and start the hike just across Hwy 49 from the Quarry parking lot entrance.
Park in the Quarry Trailhead Parking Lot or park on Hwy 49 150' or more south of gate 150 for free. The first 150' of parking beyond the gate is closed due to the River Cleanup Project. Other areas need a Poppy Pass or pay a fee.Direction Link from Sunsplash Park & Ride to the Quarry Parking Lot below. Note, I am not going to Sunsplash. This is just a link for directions from there. You can arrange car pools if you like. https://maps.app.goo.gl/A3m2MXDWJXi9sHSS8
We follow the "Leave no trace only footprints" policy.
Wandering Wednesdays may alter hikes each week but will default to the Lake Natoma Bluffs unless otherwise posted. If you are a regular be sure to confirm the hike location and time weekly. We welcome and encourage beginners but be prepared to walk 20-25 minute miles.
Text Jeff K at 916-806-4977 if you have questions. Happy Trails!!!
