Humphreys Peak – Highest in Arizona – Flagstaff – June 14

Details
Hey folks. Let’s do Humphreys Peak. It will be my third time. However, I encourage folks to do it for the first time. The hike is 10 miles round trip, gaining 3,400’. Some folks might be slower, so I encourage someone to volunteer to serve as a sweep for the slower group. We can arrange rides beforehand. We meet at the Arizona Snow Bowl at 7:45am.
I realize there are a few options with groups to hike here, so offering this day, since it is the only day I will be in town to do the hike.
The thing about Humphreys Peak is altitude. It’s a good, solid, trail hike. I encourage those who haven’t done it to please go ahead and get some acclimation before hiking Humphreys Peak. If you hike locally and haven’t been above 5,000’ all year, this probably isn’t a good hike for you.
This is why I am posting it early enough. Please get prepared. Get some acclimation hikes in, either in Prescott or on the Mogollon Rim, or even in Flagstaff itself. Grand Canyon hikes also offer some acclimation.
READ THE FOLLOWING: The Organizer of this trip is a VOLUNTEER, not a "leader". The organizer IS NOT trained in first aid and is not a bonded expert mountain guide. You will need to bring your own experience and judgment. If you want to enjoy the benefits of traveling in a group, then we suggest that you stay with the group on the trip.
The waitlist is created to give preference to hikers who have demonstrated the ability for tougher hikes and consistency of showing up when they RSVP.
Assess the route and conditions as if you were going to do this trip solo.
About your organizer: My name is Dan. I moved to the Phoenix area in early 2017. I have organized over 200 hikes for various groups – including in Arizona, the Sierras, and Northern Nevada. I tend to choose mountain summits I have never done before. I do as much preparation and mapping as I can to ensure we take the correct trails. However, when driving to and hiking in a new area, there are always surprises and unknowns.
Start time subject to change pending weather conditions.
