Hiking to Sulzenau Hut/Blaue Lacke (2289m) from Grawa Waterfall (Stubaital)

Hello everyone!

Following the success of last year's hike we're thrilled to organize the same adventure once again on Sunday the 11th of August to once again surpass the 2000m mark! This time here in Tiroler Explorer!

Our destination remains the close-by Stubai valley. We'll begin our journey hiking up alongside the majestic Grawa Waterfall, following the renowned WildeWasserWeg trail to reach the iconic Sulzenau Hut. Continuing our trek, we'll immerse ourselves in the azure-colored Blaue Lacke.

So, gear up and join us for this familiar yet always exhilarating experience!

Difficulty: This hike falls between easy and moderate difficulty levels, featuring a few red mountain trail sections that are relatively steep. The total distance covered will be around 12 km. While it's considered a family-friendly route (by Tyrolean fitness standards), please reconsider participating if you are unsure about enduring a 4+ hour hike at mid/high altitude!

Weather: Too soon to tell BUT the hike will only be cancelled early in the morning of the same day if the weather is not favorable! Weather changes a lot around these parts and you can never be 100% sure how it will be.

Schedule/Itinerary:
08:05 - Departure from the bus terminal outside Innsbruck main train station (Bus 590b towards Neustift i. St. Stubaier Gletscher)
09:15 - Arrival at the "Neustift im Stubaital Grawa Alm" bus stop
09:20 - Regroup and departure from Grawa Alm
10:30* - Regroup and departure from Sulzenau Alm
12:00* - Arrival at Sulzenau Hut (lunch)
13:30* - Visit the nearby mountain lake Blaue Lacke ??:?? - Hiking back down to the valley and return to Innsbruck (buses every 30 minutes)

If you prefer to participate by car instead of using public transportation, you can park at Sulzenau Hut Parking free of charge, although spaces may be limited. For environmental reasons, consider using public transport or carpooling.

Preparedness Checklist:

• Carry sufficient cash, as card payments may not be possible at some locations.
• Prioritize sun protection with sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses, as much of the hike will be exposed to high solar radiation.
• Stay hydrated with a refillable water container and bring snacks for energy.
• Prepare for changing weather with rain gear and waterproof footwear.
• Dogs are welcome but must remain leashed. Bring water and snacks for them too.
• Consider using hiking sticks for better stability and comfort, especially on uneven terrain.
