Thank you for your understanding! If you are brand new to aerial yoga this workshop is the start of your journey! We will introduce you to using the aerial hammock as a yoga prop. Students will learn the basics of aerial yoga; including terminology, wrist wraps, hammock placement, inversions, and safety practices. We will also help you understand the difference between the various aerial yoga class offerings. Leaving you feeling confident and ready for classes on our weekly schedule. Cosplayers are welcome to Cosplay any character they wish as long as it's family friendly. We will march in the Fiesta Asia Parade on Pennsylvania Avenue between Third and Sixth Streets NW, Washington, DC. All Cosplayers are to arrive at Archives Navy Memorial Subway Station Green/Yellow line at 11am and we will proceed to the parade route. THE PARADE ITSELF STARTS AT 12PM. This class will provide instruction into various concepts of **Jiu-Jitsu** as a form of **martial art**. Participants will have the opportunity to **study**, **practice**, and **experiment** with **submission holds** and **strategic fighting controls** that are the hallmark of the now famous methodology of Professional MMA athletes and professional combatives users. This **gi class** is held every **Tuesday** and **Thursday** and includes **one hour of instruction** and **30 minutes** (sometimes longer, TBD) of **open training**. Social Presencing Theater (SPT) is an embodied awareness based practice used as an arts-based system change methodology, however, it can be used in many different applications to bring awareness to the present through body intelligence. This event, led by somatic practitioner, [Lindsay Little](https://somalingua.com/about), will teach SPT practices and invite you to connect with your body, your somatic knowing, intuition, and the present moment. There will be some reflective dialogue, but most of the event will involve moving your body and resting in stillness in a group setting. No prior experience is required. As you are led through this slow connective practice we will settle into positions that allow you to harness both control-in the restriction of the binds-and surrender, as you allow your body and mind to give in to the hold of the silks. Please note no rope will be used in this workshop. Rather, we will be using foundational rope tying skills to tap into deep pressure therapy principals to relieve stress and release tension in the body and mind. You may bring your own aerial hammock or rent one from the studio for $10. Dress with personal comfort and level of sensory stimulation you’d like to experience in mind. Blending Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as bomba, currulao, and cumbia, and Gabriel García Márquez’s magical realism, Aguardiente is a bold new musical about the messy, urgent act of making art in a world on fire. As a group of artists race to finish a new show, their rehearsal room becomes a battleground of ideas, ambition, and lived experience—especially for a composer whose undocumented status makes the dream of success anything but simple. The topic for May is "Ink" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience.
