This is an opportunity to meet up for some LGBTQ2IA-flavoured gaming and socializingโ€”allies also welcome. Come for the gaming, socializing, and the drinks! :) Be sure to invite friends and such, too. Weโ€™ll be in the larger area towards the back. Event officially runs from 4pm to 7pm, at which point we start to pack away the games, clearing up before the band takes the stage (9:30-10pm). You'll have access to a robust library of board games, and attendees are welcome to bring their own games. There is no event fee. Instead we ask attendees to purchase beverages from the venue, Penny's Bar, conveniently located beside Lansdowne subway station at 1306 Bloor St. West. Of course, since they are offering us their space for free, please consider buying a drink if you can--possibly from our \*custom menu\*! We provide nametag stickers with a pronoun field; we want this to be a comfortable environment for everyone, kindly respect people's listed or stated pronouns. If you are unsure of someone's pronouns, don't assume: Ask, Respect and Practice Definitely ask before taking pictures/videos Alas Penny's is not accessible due to stairs, dim lighting, and loud noises. While external food is welcome, outside beverages are not permitted. \*\*\*Please reach out to [info@torontogaymers.ca](mailto:info@torontogaymers.ca) with any accessibility concerns. ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒŠ SPRING WALK OF THE TORONTO ISLANDS (9KM) ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒธ
๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒŠ SPRING WALK OF THE TORONTO ISLANDS (9KM) ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒธ
๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒŠ SPRING WALK OF THE TORONTO ISLANDS (9KM) ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒธ Lakeside Paths, Skyline Views & A Full Island Escape Thereโ€™s something about the Toronto Islands that feels like a mini getaway โ€” even though youโ€™re just minutes from downtown. Join us for a relaxed, scenic spring walk across the Toronto Islands, where open water, quiet pathways, and skyline views come together in one of the cityโ€™s most peaceful settings. The Islands have a rich and layered history โ€” once a sandbar peninsula connected to the mainland until a storm in 1858 separated it, creating the island chain we know today. Over time, itโ€™s been home to cottages, amusement parks, and a tight-knit residential community that still exists on Wardโ€™s Island. On this walk, weโ€™ll move from the quieter, more open spaces of Hanlan's Point, through the lively areas of Centre Island, and end in the charming residential feel of Ward's Island. This is not a formal tour. Itโ€™s a social walk with fresh air, beautiful views, and time to connect. ๐Ÿ‘‰ **Donโ€™t forget to join our WhatsApp group** โ€“ [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ What Weโ€™ll Do Weโ€™ll take the ferry together to Hanlanโ€™s Point and begin our walk across the islands. The route is flat, easy, and beginner-friendly โ€” perfect if youโ€™re easing back into walking or just want something relaxed. Weโ€™ll pass beaches, open green space, and some of the best skyline views in the city (perfect photo moment ๐Ÿ“ธ), making our way through Centre Island before ending at Wardโ€™s Island. Feel free to bring a snack to enjoy along the way โ€” or even something small to share. Youโ€™re welcome to leave at any time or stay and explore after we finish. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Weather & Expectations This walk will happen in typical spring weather โ€” which means sun, wind, or light rain are all possible. As long as itโ€™s not extreme conditions, weโ€™ll be going ahead. The islands can feel cooler and windier than the city, so dress in layers and be prepared. Comfortable shoes are a must. Also โ€” this is NOT a guided or historical tour. Iโ€™ll share bits of history casually, but the focus is on enjoying the experience together. ๐Ÿงข Meetup Details ๐Ÿ“ Meetup Location: Inside the ferry terminal beside the bathrooms ๐ŸซŽ Iโ€™ll be wearing my Moose Hat โฐ Meetup Time: 11:00 AM ๐Ÿšข Ferry Departure: 11:15 AM (Hanlanโ€™s Point Ferry) PLEASE BE ON TIME. Layers (it can be cooler by the water ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ) Sunscreen or sunglasses (on brighter days) Please also use the washroom before arriving, as stops are limited early on. ๐ŸŒˆ Who Is This For? [Hike - Difficult] Seaton Trail & 3rd Concession
Valley Farm Dog Park @ Seaton Trail & 3rd Concession - **\*\*\* This is a difficult trail \*\*\*** Please read carefully to maximize the enjoyment of everyone who attends: There are multiple trails located here, some are relatively easy, others are more difficult. I will be leading you over the more challenging sections and at a fast pace. We wont be running, but moving along quickly. Don't worry, we will be stopping to rest at the peaks as well as some of the more scenic areas. This area contains a number of rather steep hills which tend to be rocky and wet. Flip side, this trail also offers gorgeous views both from the peaks, as well as down along the water. We will hike at a medium pace (4 - 5 km/h) for the 10 or so kms. It's not a hike for beginners due to the steep rocky hills and faster pace. For the same reason no dogs or children. Bring 1L of water and good hiking shoes or boots. Parking Address: Valley Farm Rd. & 3rd Concession ยท Pickering, ON NOTE: Due to construction you canโ€™t take Brock to 3rd concession, you MUST take valley farm road which you can reach from Brock via Dellbrook Ave, or alternatively via Kingston or Finch Ave. There are signs warning of construction, the trail and parking are open so just follow the construction signs. At the end of valley farm turn LEFT - The parking lot is not far and on your left. ***Hike starts at 9:30-am SHARP.*** Details from the last time I did this hike: Distance : 8.87 km Moving Time : 1:57:53 Elapsed Time : 2:33:38 Pace : 13:17 /km **LEGAL DISCLAIMER AND LIABILITY INFORMATION:** By RSVP'ing and paying the event fee (if applicable), you are confirming that you have read, understand and accept the following: 1. How Lucky by Will Leitch
How Lucky by Will Leitch
Posting this early because seemingly all Sundays in May are holidays or busy! I picked a shorter thriller that's hopefully a fast read/listen. [Columbus library link to book](https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3458940) Location: Grandview Cafe, *1455 W. 3rd Ave*, Columbus, OH 43212 [Menu](https://www.grandviewcafe.com/menu) Book summary: Daniel leads a rich life in the university town of Athens, Georgia. He's got a couple close friends, a steady paycheck working for a regional airline, and of course, for a few glorious days each Fall, college football tailgates. He considers himself to be a mostly lucky guy -- despite the fact that he's suffered from a debilitating disease since he was a small child, one that has left him unable to speak or to move without a wheelchair. Largely confined to his home, Daniel spends the hours he's not online communicating with irate air travelers observing his neighborhood from his front porch. One young woman passes by so frequently that spotting her out the window has almost become part of his daily routine. Until the day he's almost sure he sees her being kidnapped.
