The dance of the owls hike: bird, walk and photograph rare birds
First of all...Attention this is a BIRDING TRIP and a HIKE which will involve stopping, waiting and looking for birds.
Time to take an easy walk along the coast to my happy place, I am not feeling like hiking hills and travelling too far away on this day so let's hop on a train to the coast of Kent and breath in the fresh air! If you want wild traditional English Coast, this is a place to go to. Pebble beaches. swamps, surrounded by nature reserves, golf courses and manor houses, without the crowd of Brighton or Eastbourne.
This trip should be quite an experience, whether you like birds or not, being surrounded by flying owls is quite something and my number one favourite nature show so why not try it out?!
I do recommend cameras and binoculars as you never know what surprise you can get in this magical place!
We will look for wildlife but the star of the day will be the short eared owls! If the weather allows, they can put up quite a unique show and will flight just a meter or two away, in some cases, not caring the least about any of us, so if you are a photographer or a birder, or want to witness something difference, this is your trip!
Of course, it is nature, I cannot commend the owls to come out in the middle of the day but they usually do unless there is a lot of wind so we have got many chances to live the show from the front row seats
The area is a well known nature reserve with one of the largest.concentration of overwintering owls in the country, there were at least nine the last time I came so let's hope for some lucky day! We will walk along and will stop for photos whenever we spot one of those gorgeous feathery friends. This year is one of the most exceptional for the shorties, as we call them in the country and populations at a number rarely seen before have just arrived from Russia and Scandinavia.

France is right across the Chanel and we might spot the white cliffs of Calais on a clear day.
This is a lovely walk, flat and easy, great for beginners of for people who just want to spend a day out on the Coast without too many human activities around.
The area is one of the prime migratory routes for birds in Britain and host an impressive list of rare bird species from around the globe over wintering.
A colony of harbour seals also inhabit the nearby bay so we might even spot one or two at hight tide.
[Sandwich Bay](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandwich_Bay,_Kent) is home to [nature reserves](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_reserve) and two world-class [golf](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golf) courses, [Royal St George's](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_St_George%27s) and [Prince's](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince%27s_Golf_Club,_Sandwich) where golfers are used to being interrupted by hunting short eared, barn and long eared owls, quite peculiar isn't it? The town is also home to many educational and cultural events. Sandwich also gave its name to [the food](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandwich) that you like by way of [John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Montagu,_4th_Earl_of_Sandwich), who didn't actually live in Sandwich...
ATTENTION: PLEASE WEAR WARM CLOTHING. WE WILL STAY AT THE SAME SPOT FOR ABOUT an HOUR TO WAIT FOR THE OWLS and will spend some time in a hide for lunch to spot snipes, jack snipes, avocets and other birds.
Those who wish are welcome to join for a delightful diner at a Turkish restaurant afterwards. It is located next to the station so if you prefer to head back home, just jump on the train.

✨3 day Edinburgh Hogmanay New Year's Eve Break!✨
So my surname used to be MacAngus… and I know a thing or two about Edinburgh! 😁🏴
It’s one of my fave UK cities that I’ve got to know well, and one of the world’s most famous places to ring in the New Year, so I'm super excited to invite you to join me and other women in our community on this new 3 day, 2 night break! 🥳
Hogmanay is the Scottish word for New Year’s Eve, considered the most important Scottish holiday as Christmas was virtually banned in Scotland for around 400 years so, until the 1950s many Scots worked over Christmas and celebrated their winter solstice holiday at New Year. So, simply put, the Scots know how to do NYE right! 🥳🙌
The highlight of Hogmanay is a massive outdoor street party beneath the iconic Edinburgh Castle, which is illuminated with a show stopping midnight fireworks display, then everyone joins hands to belt out ‘Auld Lang Syne’ before continuing to party into the wee hours! 😁
But I've got much more lined up to share this brilliant city with you too; so have a look at the link below for all the info...
If, like me, you’re bored of the Christmas and New Year hols being a bit of a meh, anti-climax, then join me and other women in our community who want to make the most of life, on a Scottish adventure to make this festive season a special one to remember! 🙌✨
And if you’ve been thinking about joining us on one of our bigger trips in the future, this short break could be the perfect little taster of your first group trip and way to sample what Travel Queen is all about! ☺️
But you’ll need to be quick; I announced this on social media only last week and 5 places went right away! We also need to get our hotel rooms confirmed and street party tickets booked ASAP as these are likely to sell out fast, and it really isn’t long off now…
Our new 3 day Edinburgh NYE Hogmanay city break is now live on the Travel Queen website so you can find out all you need to know there, book online and message me through the chat with any questions - here’s the link: [https://www.travel-queen.co.uk/edinburghnyebreak](https://www.travel-queen.co.uk/edinburghnyebreak)
Roll on Hogmanay ladies - who’s joining us?! 🥳

**FREE PUBLIC SPEAKING WORKSHOP**
(Limited number of places available, please note that to guarantee a place in this event you have to book a place)
**Workshop overview:**
The workshop is all practice-based, starting with warm-ups, improvised speaking games and opportunities to deliver off-the cuff speeches.
Group discussions will take place to learn more about why we struggle with public speaking, and what solutions we can use to help us.
Our principles are grounded in authenticity. Our approach to helping people overcome their fears is done through encouraging participants to drop the personas they wear in their day-to-day lives in order to express themselves with honesty, and discover their natural speaking style.
We’re big fans of embracing vulnerability and strongly believe it’s a strength, not a weakness. Only through vulnerability do we drop our guard and communicate in a way that truly connects to others.
**The Session will include:**
\- Why we struggle with nervousness when speaking in public
\- Our approach for embracing and overcoming these feelings
\- Practical techniques to help you come out of your head and speak using your intuition
\- A chance to practice delivering a short impromptu speech
\- And much more\!

**More on Our Philosophy:**
Our mission is bigger than just helping people become better at public speaking, our mission is to help create a more transparent and connected society. Our society celebrates extrinsic success; confidence is presented to be smooth, slick, suave and charismatic. Because of this we neglect parts of our personality, our feelings, our idiosyncrasies, our uniqueness, our quirkiness and ultimately our vulnerability in pursuit of becoming confident, according to what society deems as confidence. However, we risk becoming ‘well-rehearsed robots’ and not sincere individuals, who aren’t afraid of expressing their humanness. Our approach offers a very non-conventional way of become an empowering and inspiring communicator.

🔴🤫Silent & Mindful Hike: Gomshall via Hackhurst Downs
A hike via Hackhurst Downs with its beautiful, protected chalk grassland nature reserve in Surrey, part of the North Downs, famous for rare butterflies (like Adonis Blue) and wildflowers (like Wild Basil)...
... in silence, practicing mindfulness as a group. Focusing inwards and tuning into our breath, steps, sounds and surroundings, we let nature speak more clearly. Silent hiking helps us reduce stress, sharpen awareness, and feel connected, not only to the earth beneath us, but to each other, without needing words.

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for January is "Chemistry"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 7:00 pm, show starts at 7:30 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Saturday Mornings @ East Market
Let's grab some coffee/food and share a morning chat! The East Market has an ample parking lot and outdoor and indoor seating.
Grab a cup of coffee from Winston's Coffee & Waffles or on your way to East Market and meet us on the second floor - table behind or east of the elevator. If the weather cooperates we will be meeting in the patio.
Per what this group is about: "Everyone is welcome! International transplants to Columbus who want to improve language skills, Columbus residents who want to discuss international travel and culture, and anyone who enjoys getting together for good conversations."
Recruiting Virtual Mental Health Group Leaders!
We are recruiting new group leaders for virtual men's groups! Our primary groups are outdoor movement groups, but we are launching virtual groups for the state of Ohio and beyond and the groups will move outside in the spring, creating room for men's groups, women's groups and coed groups all over the country.
Read below to learn about our groups and click the links at the bottom to apply.
### **What is an Outdoor Empowerment Group?**
Our Outdoor Movement & Community Empowerment Groups are simple, guided experiences designed to help people reconnect with nature, themselves, and others. We combine some form of movement (hike, walk, run, bike, yoga, workout) and meaningful conversation within a simple community circle to create a space where individuals can support each other while prioritizing mental and physical well-being.
Whether you’re seeking stress relief, personal growth, or community, our groups offer everyone a unique and welcoming environment.
## **Why Join?**
* **Improve Mental & Physical Well-Being** – Movement, nature, and supportive conversations reduce stress and promote balance.
* **Feel Less Alone** – Build genuine connections with like-minded people in a safe, welcoming space.
* **Gain Clarity & Perspective** – Step outside daily routines and into a space designed for personal growth and reflection.
## **The Ideal Group Leader**
The ideal group leader
* Has a born-in passion for mental health, movement, connecting with nature and building community.
* Has 5 extra hours per week to dedicate to a meaningful cause for at least one year. Yes, you can leave any organization at any time and we can also ask you to leave, but we are building with legacy in mind and we need people who can commit and be ALL IN on this mission to build with us.
* Is independently financially stable with the ability to volunteer with no expectation of pay. This is a deeply beautiful journey of service that all participants commit to at Speak Your Mind.
* An ability to manage groups with high emotional intelligence and desire for human connection.
* An ability to self-motivate and market/promote their group on Facebook and other social platforms.
* Nature informed therapy or clinical therapists/psychologists a plus.
## **Our Impact**

Since launching, we have helped thousands find support, connection, and healing through our Outdoor Movement Groups. 100% of participants surveyed have reported:
* A noticeable improvement in mental clarity and emotional well-being.
* An increase in social connection and a sense of belonging.
* Said they would return again.
We believe mental health should be accessible, community-driven, and rooted in nature. Join us and take the first step toward a more connected, grounded, and supported version of yourself.
### **Why Our Groups are Donation-Based**
Our Outdoor Movement Groups are made possible through a donation-based model. This approach allows us to keep our events accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, while also ensuring that we can continue expanding our reach. It’s a great way to pay it forward and support the growth of this beautiful mission!
Every contribution helps us:
* **Cover Essential Costs** – Donations allow us to pay essential legal, marketing, insurance, and admin costs as well as nourish the important people who run the organization.
* **Grow Our Mission** – With your support, we can bring these healing experiences to thousands more people in the future and execute our long term plan to expand across the USA, affecting up to 500,000 people per year.
By choosing to contribute, you’re not just leading an event—you’re helping build a mental health movement that supports long-term well-being and connection for all during a severe mental health epidemic.
