Microspikes are mandatory. We will hike Kortright Centre for Conservation. The hike is rated intermediate. It will be around 10 KM. **Membership Fee** Members are required to pay an annual fee of $8.00 for the period from January to December, which is used to cover the cost of Meetup’s yearly subscription. Each member may invite up to two guests to each event at no additional charge. The membership fee policy began on January 1, 2025. **New members** can attend their first event for free before opting for an annual membership. **Current members** are required to submit their payment at the time of RSVP, rather than in advance. When they RSVP for an event, their names will be added to the waitlist automatically. Fees are only applicable when you are on the waitlist. Please e-Transfer to [dierw@rogers.com](http://dierw@rogers.com/) and be sure to put your name to clearly identify who sent it. After the e-Transfer is completed, your name will be added to the going list. All fees are non-refundable. We will wait for an additional 5 minutes and then start the hike without you; we will not wait around indefinitely. Before you RSVP, please note: Well-behaved dogs are welcome. We casually stroll along the route making frequent stops. For fun and adventure, sometimes we deviate from the original route. Do not attend this event if you are on the waitlist, you MUST have an RSVP. Please refrain from wearing heavily scented products such as perfume and cologne. New members must post a recognizable picture of yourself or you will not be allowed to attend. If you can no longer attend an event, immediately change your RSVP to 'Not going' to make room for others who are on the waitlist. If you selfishly take a hiking spot and then do not show up, you will be noted as a no-show. Your membership is subject to termination if you no-show for an event with a waitlist or after 3 incidents of no-show. **What to bring:** * At least one litre of water and munchies to eat on the trail. * Sturdy hiking shoes/boots, dress for the elements (in layers). * Hiking poles for balance and stability, gaiters if you have them. * Lots of enthusiasm, a very positive attitude and a camera/phone. **By attending this event all participants accept waiver of liability as follows:** I am responsible for my own safety and acknowledge the risk involved. I am participating voluntarily and the risks involved are beyond the control of event organizer and the group. Additionally, I do not have any conditions that will increase my likelihood of experiencing injuries while engaging in this activity. The organizer reserves the right to remove any members who do not meet the group's requirements, or who exhibits behaviour that is disrespectful or detrimental to the interests and safety of the group. The trick to not getting separated from the group is to make sure the hiker ahead of you is always within sight. Be respectful of the environment. **An opportunity to serve the homeless and those at risk as a group.** During our recent sessions, we served meals, chopped veggies, made sandwiches, and helped prepare pasta. Each session is similar; however, tasks may vary depending on the need at hand (e.g., sorting food). *We had a great time serving together with lots of smiles and good energy.* **Only 6 spots available. If you’re planning to attend, please RSVP to reserve your spot and help us plan.** When you arrive at **Reception**, the staff will guide you to the volunteer room, where you can place your belongings in a locker and meet the group. Especially for those who will join our event for the first time, we recommend the following directions, 1. Leave the subway station and walk west for about three minutes along Dundas Street. 2. At the intersection of Bay Street and Dundas Street, you will find an entrance. Proceed down the escalator. 3. The food court is on the basement floor. Please talk to the organizer with the signboard showing TJEX. (If you can’t find them, please send a message to the organizer.) ⚠️RSVP & Late Policy * Failure to show, arriving after 5:45 PM (15 minutes late), and cancelling after 1:00 PM on the day of the event all constitute a "no-show". Members are removed from the group after their third no-show. * If you are running late, please ensure you send a message to the organizer so we can keep a spot open for you. We will rearrange the groups for members who show up on time. If you show up late without letting us know, we will no longer allow you to join so please be mindful of the time. Waiting List: Members can join the waiting list if an event is full. In case a spot becomes available, it will be automatically assigned to a member on the waitlist on a first-come first-serve basis. Care Packages for Unhoused Folks- Volunteer Gathering
Volunteer with Westerville Queer Collective and the Neurospicy Meetup to build care packages for local unhoused folks, which will be distributed throughout local camps and neighborhoods via Heer2Serve (501c3). Will you donate any items? If so, comment what will you bring Please make sure clothing items are clean and if you’re donating food, ready to be eaten without a stove or microwave. We expect to assemble around 50-100 packages, so if you’ll purchase items, please consider that amount (ie bulk individually packaged candies etc.). Fun and interesting book or entertainment item donation also welcome! Package assembly will take place on January 17th from 10-12 am. Location TBA but will be in Westerville, Ohio.

Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process. Fast track • Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell). • Show up and try it out. • Complete application, etc. later. Normal process • Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/). • Attend orientation in advance. • At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility. • Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM. • Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895). The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014. Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
