Advance Notice: Adamsons Peak and Camping at Esperance.

Details

Saturday 8 June:
Drive time from Hobart 1.5 hours. Turn right after Dover up Esperance River Road. It is in the middle of the Esperance River Forest Reserve.

  • Meet at the Campground at 12pm.
  • Set up vans and tents. Fires are permitted.

Explore the River: There is interesting walking up and down the river according to this blog. Esperance River | Hiking South East Tasmania)

Sunday 9 June:
Sunrise 7:35am Sunset 4:43
8:30am Depart from the Adamsons Peak Trailhead -43.33055 146.91224
Google says 6.8km (2hr 8 mins) one way. Alltrails says 15km return, 6 hours. With a suggestions that average people could take 7-8 hours.

We would want to be back at the trail head by 3:30pm (7 hours elapsed) so that means turning around at 12 noon regardless of how far we get.

Everyone says bring gaiters - it will be wet and muddy.

Duckhole Lake walk: Monday morning: Start is 23 minutes drive south from campground. Entrance Creekton Road, well signposted. 1.8km. Then you can shortcut back to the highway instead of retracing steps to the campground.

Adamsons Peak:
Hard going especially in winter "People have been rescued attempting this so take your time and if in doubt turn back." We might get that chopper after all!
