Dispersed Small Group Campout off of Rampart Range Rd near Woodland Park

This is the only group campsite I could reserve in the entire area and it looks pretty sweet -- it's a dispersed site (there are no amenities, like outhouses or drinking water, so plan accordingly) off the main road overlooking a little pond

I took another run up there, basically you drive 10 miles west on hwy 67 from (Wide Open Saloon) in Sedalia, then 17 miles south on Rampart Range (DIRT) Rd, then west 3/4 mile on Hidden Valley Rd, maybe 1 hr 20 min from Sedalia

The speed limit is 20 mph and it is dusty, where it's good you can go 25 mph but you should probably go 10 to 15 mph in the wash board or loose gravel turn/downslope areas - just plan to take your time and enjoy the sites

WARNING: Hidden Valley Rd is a lot narrower, a lot rockier with ruts and humps, and overgrown branches so take it real slow and you should be able to make it (if I'm super careful I may catch a few branches but my RV's running boards shouldn't bottom out too badly) -- There were some flies by this mud puddle but didn't see any mosquitoes and one of the hosts told me they aren't too strict about too many vehicles or people as long as we aren't too wild, the Forest Service host doesn't care so much if we have more than 15 people but he might charge $11/vehicle/nite over the allotted 5 vehicles (I think we should keep vehicles off the grassy areas NO CELL SERVICE in the valley but there is in spots up on Rampart Range Rd so download your map before you leave Sedalia

The site was only around $130 for Thurs thru Sat nite, so if you can, please kick in $10/ea to defray costs, maybe bring food/beverages to share, some fire wood and a good attitude (I'll bring a really small phone booth-sized tent and portable potty/TP you are welcome to use, if you pack out the waste baggies in your vehicle when you leave)

It's going to be pretty chill there, I would not plan on going into town but there are trails and forest roads everywhere and a real cool 2.8 mile/866 ft elevation (mostly stairs) out & back hike 9 miles away called Devil's Head Lookout about 25 min/9 miles away, where the closest pit toilets are, though the toilets at Devil's Head campground or a mile further north on Rampart Range Rd at the next trailhead may be less used and cleaner:

Not a lot of info other than 15 people / 5 vehicles max (we need to carpool as best we can -- I'll have 2 extra seats in my RV)

About 1.5 hrs from my house in Highlands Ranch, beautiful drive down the unpaved Rampart Range Rd if you take Santa Fee south to Sedalia and then West on route 67

Little to no cell service so download your map before getting there

Everyone's on their own and responsible for their own safety but we usually have a happy hour together in the afternoons and share/pot luck meals if you choose to participate
