The Vegan Australia Day 2026!
Join us to celebrate The Vegan Australia Day 2026!
Sunday 18th of January 2026 from 11am till 4pm
At Captain Burke Park, Kangaroo Point, Brisbane Qld Australia.
Celebrating before the public holiday, out of respect for the sentiments expressed by many in the indigenous community about the significance to them of the current public holiday date. We understand that our indigenous community do not oppose having a day celebrating being Australian, but do feel strong negative associations with the official Australia Day date. The Vegan Society of Queensland listens to and respects this and aims to work in solidarity with indigenous Australians.
Everyone is invited! There will be free vegan sausages for all!
All cultures in Australia united with our Original Australians in a joined peaceful celebration of everything that is Australia today!
We will have another fun "Cruelty Free" Celebration of Australia!
Sheep outnumber humans in Australia by about 3 to 1. They are unsuited to Australian conditions - causing problems like fly strike with cruel solutions like mulesing operations without anaesthesia. Selectively bred to have far more folds of skin than their ancestors, to maximise wool production, sheep swelter in the Aussie heat and sun, such that their very genetics are part of the standardised cruelty. Their presence also causes environmental problems like erosion, loss of wilderness and biodiversity, deaths of native animals to protect pasture, and methane emissions. They are a species totally unsuited to be here. They live miserable lives, considered mere production-units, but they are each unique and sensitive personalities, each one a point of consciousness where to any one of them suffering will feel like the entirety of existence. Particularly during events like The Australia Day celebrations, their enslavement on this continent and the negative impacts of their presence get celebrated by people choosing to kill and eat them especially - a "tradition" started only a few years ago by Lamb industry advertising. It is horrible animal exploitation.
So, by Celebrating Australia Day the Vegan way we send a clear and strong message to the rest of Australia (and the world) that there is no need to cause pain to defenceless creatures or to participate in the destruction of our natural environment – both a result of animal farming.
The Vegan Australia Day is a true celebration of life and we choose to pave the way for an environmentally friendly, happy, clean and cruelty-free celebration of Australia and all other special dates.
