⛰️🥾 Montferland Summit Round: 25 km/ 400 m elevation

With the Montferland Summit Round, you’ll explore the most naturally varied and hilly part of the Achterhoek — a 25 km route with around 400 meters of elevation gain.

The Montferlandse Summit Round introduces you to one of the most varied and quietly beautiful landscapes of the Achterhoek. The Montferland ridge was formed around 200,000 years ago, when ice pushed the land upward into a series of gentle wooded hills known as stuwwallen. Because of this, the terrain here is not flat — the paths rise and fall naturally, giving the hike a relaxed rhythm of soft climbs and flowing descents.

What stands out here is the peace. Much of the walk leads through deep forest, along narrow footpaths where your companions are more likely to be hawks, woodpeckers, pine martens, roe deer, foxes, and sometimes even the tracks of the shy local badger. Between the woodland ridges, wide views open up across the patchwork fields of the Achterhoek — and on clear days, even toward the Veluwezoom and Germany.

🏁 Finish
After 25km, we will finish the hike at the same sport we started, since this is a loop hike.

🚗 Coming by car?
If you’re coming by car, there should be plenty of space to park because it is a small town. However, please come early. it is usually people coming by car that miss the start of the hike because they are looking for a space to park.

• Hike difficulty: Our hikes are moderately challenging. Please only join if you’re confident you can keep up with the group’s pace (5 km/ h)— it’s more fun for everyone when we can walk together without long waits.
• If the pace is too challenging: We may kindly suggest you continue at your own pace. We’ll give you clear directions to the nearest bus or train so you can return comfortably.
• At your own risk: You participate at your own risk, so please make sure you have appropriate insurance coverage for outdoor activities.
• Payment note: With Tikkie we only see initials (e.g., J. Doe instead of John Doe). Please include your Meetup name in the payment note so we can match it easily.
