We are once again heading towards end of year celebrations and getting ready in regards to how and where we would like to spend New Years Eve 2023/24
For the past number of years Venturevibe has hosted a " New Years Eve" Yarra river Kayak event with shared picnic dinner on the river banks near Morell bridge Is been a very successful event loads of fun and thoroughly enjoyed by those that went!
Lets Kayak the Yarra by night and soak up the New Years Eve city atmosphere!!
Melbourne is renowned for its Magical atmosphere once the sun goes down. The city comes alive with music, lights, people and dance activities. Even more so on NEW YEARS EVE!
What could be more pleasurable then Kayaking down the river whilst soaking up the sights and sounds of the City atmosphere as we paddle our way towards Southbank and Crown Casino.
The Gas lantern display on Southbank will also be a highlight exploding flames on the hour every hour from 7 pm onwards.
Below are the details to make this fun event a safe and happening event.
Meet at: 7.00pm on the banks of the river near were we park our cars.
Parking: We will park on Alexandra avenue near Anderson St, just at the base of the " Morell Bridge" ( foot bridge only)
What to bring: Your Kayak, paddle, safety vest. A whistle. ( to alert others in the event you need assistance )
COST TO ATTEND THIS EVENT:
$25.00 IF YOU SUPPLY YOUR OWN KAYAKS.
$80.00 IF YOU DONT HAVE A kayak.
$95.00 FOR A DOUBLE KAYAK.
What to wear: its night time could be any temp, so please come well prepared with warm/cool, suitable as well as comfortable clothing. Wet suits are also a sensible option.
PICNIC: there are some fantastic Picnic/B.B.Q's facilities right near our starting point, we shall kick start this event with a bite to eat. Need not be fancy, can be as simple as - a Sausage sizzle - or as tasty as a bit of fish on the Barby - or a juicy steak - or picnic style dinner, completely your call.
What food to bring: Picnic/B.B.Q food as above , plus water and any snacks you wish to enjoy.
Toilets: A 50 metre walk from our B.B.Q spot and our parked cars.
Kayak launch: we will launch our kayaks at : " Botanic Gardens Landing" conveniently our parked cars, B.B.Q, Toilets and Kayak launch pad are all in the one area.
The Kayak trip: will be around 7 km return journey. We will disembark somewhere near Docklands. I do recommend we have a break at some point to stretch our legs and any other body parts that get a bit tangled from sitting in the same position for a period of time.
The New Years Entertainment:
Please visit www.whatson.melbourne.vic.gov.au
for details regarding how the city will look for the celebrations.
Ticketed celebration zones will be set up across Alexandra Gardens, Docklands, F S Gardens, and Treasury Gardens.
In the Docklands zone, a spectacular Drone swarm show.
No idea what that entails, but we are going to find out.
Our aim in the Kayak will be to head to the Docklands zone.
Weather: I usually don't let the weather interfere to much with our Venturevibe events (providing its not a safety issue) but on this occasion the weather will play a part. If its raining very heavy and really windy, I feel it is not safe to proceed with this Kayak trip. We are aiming for a clear, almost dry night.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: We must be " SEEN TO BE SAFE". A headlamp is a must ! Lights coming from your Kayak front and back are a very safe option. RED light back of kayak and CLEAR WHITE light front of kayak . Need not be complicated, just get some Velcro and attach your light to front and back of your kayak. I dare say the first section of our trip could be a tad dark apart from street lights and the lights that light up the bridges. Once we get closer to Southbank, we can tap into the scenic city lights.
Whilst Kayaking on the Yarra, we must stay RIGHT HAND side of the river at all times !!!
FINALLY: Safety is imperative on this event, rules are in place for a reason and for our safety and well being. Please take this on board to avoid any accidents, freak, or otherwise.
Bring a sense of adventure, beautiful smiling faces and no doubt we will make an unforgettable 2023/24 New years Kayak experience !!
