Bogong Peaks Traverse - 115km - G4/4+

Details

This expedition will take in the gems of Victoria's high country. Starting at the bottoms of Mount Bogong, we'll climb to the summit and then traverse to the West Peaks, and thern onto the fabulous Quartz ridge track, Big river and the Grey hills and onto Mt.Nelse. It follows some of the Falls to Hotham Alpine crossing but I think I'll cut across and go off track to Pretty valley and the Tawonga huts with maybe an option to hit Mt.Mckay via an off track scrambly route that I've seen, and been wanting to do, as well as Jaingarmatha. We might see the west ridge if South Fainter which is a technical adventure scramble/climb which I'll save for a future trip. I want to go off track to pretty valley, Only as I've done the Falls and Hotham track too many times and I find Day 1 of that track pretty boring.

Before the traverse to Pretty Valley maybe we'll spend the night at the Rovers hut (to be confirmed) and have a shower and bed.

We'll then go across the bare but spectacular in an alpine way, the Bogong high plains to Dibbins hut, but instead of going up to Mt Loch we'll go down to the base of the Diamantina Spur and climb up to Mt. Feathertop Summit.
We'll traverse the Razorback and pull up at Mt. Hotham. Option to stay at a ski lodge at Mt Hotham for a couple nights or exit the trip, an option to maybe do a final day trip to Mt Loch and have a magnificent view of Mt Feathertop. and the Bogong high plains

The dates of this trip are tentative.
This is a draft to see what interest if any there is, and details may change.

I'll add a trip itinerary and correct distances at some stage. I'll see if there is any interest to confirm dates etc. The trip can be done in sections and has a couple of exit or entry points at Falls Creek and Bungalow Spur at Feathertop and Mt. Hotham. You could presumably come up Spion Kopje fire train and meet at Ropers or Edmonds hut too.

I'd like to go up Diamantina Spur before the planned commercial development ruins the track by dumbing it down and commercial lodges are built.
Diamantina Spur is steep and very rough in sections involving some minor scrambling. Which in my view makes it pretty interesting but of course, some commercial tour operators don't like this and want to get rid of it.

I will put a waitlist in place so if you are interested you'll need to get in touch with me so I can co-ordinate start times or sections and your experience.

I will not help with transport or accommodation if you decide to enter or exit a section and I will not act as a "guide", you'll need to be self sufficient and be prepared for Alpine travel as blizzards and snow are possible any time of year. It's around 2000m above sea level and pretty exposed to the weather in many sections .

The water is generally bad up there so you'll need water purification. I and other members of my party have caught gastro up there in previous trips. Not pleasant. Gaiters etc This will suit a person with intermediate hiking experience. Probably need a sleeping bag good for 0 to 5 degrees for this time of year if you're a cold sleeper/female or 5 to 10 if you're a warm sleeper.

Any questions get in touch.
